What is this book about?
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is at once a history of New York City and a history of American comic books, rolled in with a the story of the Jewish people throughout the World War 2 era. It's about superheroes and golems, but not in the way one might think.
Why did we pick this book?Aside from winning the Pulitzer, the book was extremely highly recommended by sources too numerous to mention. Some of the crew were already fans of Michael Chabon, which sealed the deal. New York AND Comic books!
What did we think of it?This was an amazingly written, engaging, beautiful story. Anyone would (and should) enjoy this book without reservation. Its power is both in strength of the story it tells and the manner in which it tells it: a rare combination.
