Tonight on GeekNights, we consider the all-time classic Batman: The Animated Series. We talked in ancient times about the tv shows of our youth in a general sense, but BTAS is important enough to warrant its own episode! In the news, Weathering With You is worth seeing, Ride Your Wave continues the unstoppable Masaaki Yuasa train, Saint Young Men is coming to English audiences, and The Dragon Prince was good to the end!
Tonight on GeekNights, we review the new hotness we played at PAX Unplugged's First Look, Yusuke Matsumoto's Nokosu Dice. It's a trick taking game like nothing you've ever played before, and we're already obsessed with it. A perfect complement to Wizard, this one is a must-buy!
In the news, Old Man Scott doesn't want you to listen to GeekNights, Fantasy Flight Interactive shuts down, AGDQ was pretty solid this year, Oath is probably going to be good, and Slay the Spire got even better.
Come see us live at PAX South 2020 with an all new panel!
Tonight on a very special GeekNights, we consider GeekNights. We've come a long way since we did a meta episode in 2005. We are back from the usual end-of-year hiatus with bold ideas and some fun new things to come! From the ancient original forum to Radio Free Equestria, Rym doodling on his keyboard to Lunch with Scott , we've done a lot of things over the last 15 years. Here's to another 15!
Tonight on GeekNights, we consider the various issues around manga distribution in the US. Like, when kids search for manga and find more pirate sites than legitimate ones. In the news, Scott beefs with the city of Philadelphia, BNA is coming from Trigger, the Manga Research and Reading Network in New York is pretty awesome, the Otakon Artist Alley "controversy" wasn't what it appeared to be, and we'll see you at MAGFest, PAX South, and PAX East in rapid succession!
We will be at PAX South 2020 with an all new panel!

Take your #@*$ Turn!
PAX Unplugged 2019
We’ve all played the "30-60 minute" board game that seems to always take exactly four hours. Your definition of "a quick game" always seems to be far from what your friends think. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Join us for a lively discussion of what factors, from game design decisions to players’ interactions, cause games to take too long. We’ll then teach you, in detail, how to take your #@*$ turn!
Book Club - The Tale of Genji
What better selection for the book club than the first novel of all time? And of course, we have to read the best possible unabridged translation. No baby mode here at GeekNights
The plot revolves around Genji, who is the son of the Emperor and a low ranking concubine. Genji is removed from the line of succession, and proceeds to go on an epic journey. The journey involves tons of romance and court drama. Spicy!
Despite being older than any other novel, The Tale of Genji has a tremendous amount of relevance to the geeks of the 21st century. The influence of Japan on nerds around the world is undeniable, and a surprising amount of things we see in pop culture are present here in a book from the 11th century. I'm quite confident after reading it how we will notice how many newer stories have been making references to this tale without us realizing it.
Also, I feel the need to point out that this first novel ever written was written by a woman. For all these reasons and so many more, this is more than worthy of book club selection.
