[07:26:01] <Bronz|work> Hello.
[07:26:08] <Bronz|work> Seems my PC shut down while I wasn't here.
[07:30:16] <Aria> Hi
[07:30:22] <Bronz|work> Hello, how goes?
[07:31:18] <Aria> Good good, I'm getting ready to start 'work'
[07:34:29] <Aria> $500 is too much
[07:34:38] <Aria> For Xbox
[07:35:04] <Bronz|work> Hmm...
[07:35:17] <Bronz|work> Does seem like a lot, yeah.
[07:39:38] <Aria> Sony was shit.
[07:39:49] <Aria> If I knew it was all trailers, I wouldn't have watched
[07:40:15] <Bronz|work> I dunno, if someone told you "Yeah, it's basically all trailers", would you not have watched?
[07:40:29] <Aria> I would. Because Xbox is that
[07:40:31] <Aria> Everybody is that
[07:40:35] <Bronz|work> Exactly!
[07:40:42] <Bronz|work> Couldn't have known without watching.
[07:41:08] <Aria> If somebody had said "It's literally all trailer, no one walks on stage. Its just trailer after trailer" - I wouldn't have believed him
[07:41:16] <Aria> But if I did, I wouldn't have watched
[07:43:45] <Bronz|work> What if someone said "The only person on stage is Shawn Layden twice, and he manages to say nothing both times?"
[07:51:49] <Aria> Oh that was a question
[07:51:56] <Bronz|work> =P
[07:52:06] <Bronz|work> That's ok, you don't have to answer if you don't wanna.
[07:52:14] <Aria> Yeah, I would've watched because I wouldn't have believed the "he manages to say nothing both times" part
[07:52:27] <Aria> But again, if I had known, I wouldn't have watched
[07:52:40] <Bronz|work> Ok, fair enough.
[07:58:43] <Aria> This GUI generator looks hype
[07:58:48] <Aria> You make a photoshop of your GUI
[07:58:51] <Aria> and then it makes it into code
[07:59:08] <Bronz|work> That sounds cool
[07:59:30] <Aria> I assume it only works if you use pixel perfect representations of the default iOS widgets, but yknow
[07:59:50] <Aria> It also supports HTML
[08:01:13] <Aria> This is stupid https://youtu.be
[08:02:16] <Aria> You don't need sound. A Bz song is playing
[08:02:20] <Bronz|work> For 8 subscribed people, this is a rather content filled sub: https://www.reddit.com
[08:02:46] <Aria> There's been 1 post in the last 30 days
[08:03:11] <Bronz|work> Are they playing music for the coffee?
[08:03:18] <Aria> Yes.
[08:03:20] <Bronz|work> It shit actually an advert for coffee, secretly?
[08:03:33] <Bronz|work> *this
[08:03:34] <Aria> Well, no, it's a coffee avert
[08:03:39] <Aria> Not secretly
[08:03:46] <Aria> But its a stupid coffee advert
[08:04:15] <Bronz|work> Wait, B'z branded coffee?
[08:04:41] <Aria> No
[08:05:14] <Bronz|work> oh =(
[08:18:38] <Bronz|work> B´z, sorry
[08:19:16] <Aria> My watch later is approx 25 hours long
[08:19:27] <Aria> I mean, I'm not planning on watching most of it
[08:19:33] <Aria> A lot of it is stuff you skim through
[08:19:36] <Aria> But still
[08:24:59] <Bronz|work> What are you planning to write today?
[08:25:10] <Aria> Campfire argument
[08:25:21] <Aria> E Ink is making dresses
[08:25:47] <Aria> But they change colour
[08:35:03] <Bronz|work> That sounds cool.
[08:35:11] <Bronz|work> Like those shirts that change colour with heat?
[08:35:23] <Aria> Yeah but instead its a wavey stripey pattern
[08:35:36] <Bronz|work> Because I remember those shirts just changing colour in all the spots you don't want them to (such as butcrack, armpits, etc)
[09:02:04] <Aria> I wanna make a movie where there's the champion character, and his support crew
[09:02:14] <Apsup> Mornin'
[09:02:37] <Aria> And the heroes need to attack some objective on two flanks, champion takes one flank and support the other. But its told from the PoV of one of the support soldiers
[09:02:41] <Aria> Also hi Apsup
[09:13:52] <Aria> Do you like Bladerunner, Apsup?
[09:14:27] <Bronz|work> Hi Apsup!
[09:15:44] <Apsup> I don't have any special feelings about Bladerunner, but I guess yes.
[09:16:00] <Aria> I tried watching it and I super did not see the appeal
[09:16:36] <Aria> I was hoping you could argue for it, because everyone else I've heard have come from the point of view that their audience already thinks its great
[09:16:52] <Aria> I watched about 3/4 of it, and it was very slow and boring
[09:17:14] <Aria> Difficult to follow as well
[09:19:26] <Apsup> I can agree on it being slow, but I rewatched it recently and felt it was quite manageable to follow.
[09:20:17] <Aria> I think I got everything the movie presented, but rather it felt like I was missing stuff, because it was presenting so little information that it was conflicting wth my expectation
[09:47:22] <Bronz|work> Hey Aria, what do you think this could be?
[09:47:25] <Bronz|work> "Quick links on the intranet do not open after the first click, it opens after the second hit."
[09:47:39] <Bronz|work> (That's the whole description the customer wrote, btw).
[09:48:09] <Aria> Okay so on the corporate front page, whatever is the default browser home page on new installations
[09:48:27] <Aria> There is a widget on the website, or something on the website with the title "Quick Links"
[09:48:33] <Aria> Or maybe Quick Start
[09:48:33] <Bronz|work> Yup, got that far.
[09:49:13] <Aria> And when she clicks on those, it takes a second to load. She clicks twice, by the time she clicks the second time, her browser empties her current page to start displaying the other page
[09:49:18] <Aria> Its a timing thing, not actually a problem
[09:49:54] <Bronz|work> *He.
[09:51:13] <Aria> Do they use IE?
[09:51:16] <Aria> Try IE in safe mode
[09:51:40] <Bronz|work> I don't know yet, he didn't say.
[09:51:43] <Aria> And if that works, just do the regular deleting IE caches stuff and hopefully those pages will start loading faster
[09:51:44] <Bronz|work> And he's not answering the phone.
[09:52:14] <Bronz|work> But you think slow loading is the most likely? I'll have a look at that, then
[09:52:51] <Aria> Maybe IE does a thing where it tries to load the cached version, but if you click again, it interrupts trying to fetch the cached broken version and goes for live?
[09:53:11] <Bronz|work> You think it's a chache miss?
[09:53:30] <Bronz|work> Oh, unrelated, but did you get my email on the cleandesk?
[09:53:44] <Aria> Maybe the website because corporate, has some shitty unfriendly JS emulation of Windows desktop shortcuts instead of just regular hyperlinks
[09:54:09] <Aria> (So JS catches double click, then redirect you, instead of you clicking on a link and following it)
[09:54:34] <Aria> Yes
[09:55:45] <Bronz|work> so the quick links section looks pretty normal.
[09:55:51] <Bronz|work> It's a javascript based expanding menu.
[09:56:28] <Aria> It's not a bunch of pictures of Windows shortcut icons?
[09:58:50] <Aria> 5M JPY is 50K EUR by the way.
[09:59:29] <Aria> So 10 Eur per person
[10:00:29] <Aria> Wait I got that math wrong, 0.01 per person
[10:03:43] <Bronz|work> Yeah, I know. That was part of the joke.
[10:03:53] <Aria> Alright.
[10:03:57] <Bronz|work> That it was an extremely low number.
[10:04:07] <Aria> Yeah it worked.
[10:04:27] <Bronz|work> I did get it off by a zero though, I was aiming for 5000, since that's like, one dude staying home, sulking kinds of money
[10:04:43] <Bronz|work> Also, Norway wouldn't use yen.
[10:05:23] <Aria> Is Finland Crowns or Euros?
[10:05:39] <Aria> (Apsup)
[10:06:34] <Apsup> Euros. We have never (in a long time) used Crowns.
[10:06:48] <Aria> What did you have before?
[10:07:04] <Apsup> Marks
[10:07:31] <Aria> I did not know or expect that
[10:08:02] <Apsup> Had no King of our own ever, so why would we use Crowns.
[10:08:29] <Aria> Swedish crowns
[10:15:52] <Bronz|work> If I put some crowns on my head, do I become king?
[10:15:59] <Bronz|work> What if I put all of them on my head?
[10:16:14] <Aria> Yes, if you put all the crowns on your head, you become king
[10:16:32] <Aria> One crown allows you one crown worth of trading currency
[10:16:32] <Bronz|work> Pretty sure that is actually emperor.
[10:19:02] <Apsup> King of Crowns.
[10:25:26] <Aria> Is Daniel wearing plate mail? I had assumed he wouldn't be. But if he's going on a quest, you would want armour, right?
[10:25:54] <Bronz|work> Yeah, but if he's not very rich, he wouldn't be able to afford it.
[10:26:05] <Bronz|work> Also, if they're traveling, you would not go in war gear.
[10:26:15] <Bronz|work> Gambasson, plus maybe chainmail makes the most sense.
[10:26:29] <Bronz|work> Because you can actually carry those around with you from place to place.
[10:26:29] <Aria> Well not on your person, but don't you bring it anyway if you have it?
[10:26:39] <Bronz|work> The plate was more a battlefield thing.
[10:27:06] <Aria> His dad's a knight. He's planning to be a knight, I assume he would've prioritized affording the armour
[10:27:30] <Bronz|work> Armour is one of those things you inherrit, I think?
[10:27:46] <Aria> Wouldn't it then not fit very well?
[10:27:50] <Bronz|work> You would have your good armour, and maybe a second practise armour if you're pretty rich?
[10:27:57] <Bronz|work> Oh, well, it would have to be fitted
[10:28:00] <Aria> They wore armour during the crusades. That's a lot of traveling
[10:28:04] <Bronz|work> But that's a lot cheaper than antirely new armour.
[10:28:18] <Bronz|work> They did not wear plate on horseback the entire way.
[10:28:34] <Bronz|work> They had carts to carry that sort of stuff
[10:28:38] <Bronz|work> At least, I believe so.
[10:28:38] <Aria> Mail + Helmet looks like
[10:29:00] <Aria> Finding a bunch of references to full plate actually
[10:29:37] <Bronz|work> Oh.
[10:29:41] <Bronz|work> Maybe I was wrong?
[10:30:14] <Aria> In LotR nobody wears plate
[10:30:25] <Aria> But they clearly have plate, since the war scenes have people in plate
[10:30:40] <Aria> Oh actually
[10:30:52] <Aria> The orks all wear plate, and they travel the furthest
[10:31:04] <Bronz|work> https://www.reddit.com
[10:31:31] <Bronz|work> The orks are also in lore way stronger than humans, and don't feel pain/fatigue.
[10:31:44] <Aria> Why do they lose every single fight?
[10:31:56] <Aria> Every human in those movies kills like eight orks
[10:32:02] <Bronz|work> Because humans have god on their side!
[10:32:23] <Bronz|work> Also, the orks totally win every off-screen battle.
[10:32:33] <Bronz|work> All the ones where the main characters aren't in them.
[10:37:23] <Bronz|work> Lemmie know what you find, if you're still researching.
[10:37:31] <Aria> Okay
[10:40:20] <Aria> This is going to take a while. Several long videos
[10:40:52] <Aria> I'm watching them 2x speed and skimming, but still a lot to go through
[10:41:50] <Bronz|work> Too much research for a (trashy?) fantasy novel.
[10:43:11] <Aria> It's not trashy! It's very sophisticated and-- I dunno, other things incompatible with trash
[10:45:13] <Bronz|work> That's true, it's actually not very trashy.
[10:45:22] <Bronz|work> Trashy was a bad adjective to use.
[12:19:33] <Aria> Its very good, okay?
[12:31:22] <Bronz|work> Speaking of things that were good, I had Barbecue
[12:31:27] <Bronz|work> It was... acceptable
[12:31:44] <Aria> Sounds good!
[12:31:52] <Bronz|work> The icecream was the tiniest cup of icecream, which had all melted, because it was outside in a box.
[12:32:07] <Aria> I would like some acceptable barbeque right now
[12:32:09] <Bronz|work> The burger was pretty alright, but also extremely barebones.
[12:32:17] <Bronz|work> I also had a sausage.
[12:32:23] <Bronz|work> It was a sausage.
[12:32:32] <Aria> Do you know what I have?
[12:32:35] <Aria> Nothing.
[12:32:36] <Bronz|work> I skipped the baked potato, because it was a potato with nothing on it.
[12:32:43] <Bronz|work> You have cauliflower salad!
[12:32:45] <Aria> That doesn't sound good
[12:32:54] <Aria> Yeah, with /pickles/
[12:32:58] <Bronz|work> (Make sure you mix it so the sauce covers it)
[12:33:04] <Bronz|work> Pickles are tasty!
[12:33:13] <Bronz|work> Put it on a sandwich!
[12:33:43] <Aria> There is sauce?
[12:33:56] <Aria> Pickles are lovely. Just not with this meal
[12:35:56] <Bronz|work> There is a vinigrette.
[12:59:17] <Bronz|work> We should add cheese to the shopping list, if it's not there already.
[12:59:28] <Aria> Okay
[12:59:39] <Bronz|work> Also, I assume you're hard at work writing, or have done laundry?
[13:00:37] <Aria> Yes, hard at work
[13:00:40] <Aria> Quite sleepy also
[13:01:55] <Bronz|work> Ah, a dangerous combination.
[13:02:12] <Aria> I put down my heavy machinery and am wearing hard hat
[13:02:15] <Aria> I should be safe
[13:04:28] <Bronz|work> /r/OSHA would be happy.
[13:15:41] <Aria> "With both hands, I hold what in Spain – where Medieval Times originated in 1973 and takes much of its heritage – is called a “mandoble.”"
[13:17:12] <Aria> Also from the same article
[13:17:13] <Aria> "Sure, the fight scenes are choreographed. But the difference between really trying to kill somebody and pretending to try to kill somebody is minimal. Both are tough."
[13:17:27] <Aria> Yeah I don't think I trust this article.
[13:23:39] <Bronz|work> That's fair.
[13:23:50] <Bronz|work> Did you ever get an answer about whether people traveled in their armour or not?
[13:24:01] <Aria> Sorta
[13:24:41] <Aria> Yes. You will take your armour with you
[13:24:47] <Aria> No you will not carry it on your person
[13:25:06] <Aria> But then I don't know where you would carry it
[13:25:18] <Aria> Because none of these paintings have it on the horses
[13:25:25] <Apsup> Horse, other horse, carriage.
[13:25:38] <Apsup> Armor carrying person/slave?
[13:25:44] <Bronz|work> I assume the same place you put your tent, and your food supplied, etc.
[13:25:48] <Bronz|work> So carts.
[13:25:55] <Aria> I guess a pack horse could work for my scenario
[13:26:09] <Bronz|work> But what if someone who owned armour traveled alone, or a small group?
[13:26:09] <Aria> But they're riding through bad terrain, so a cart wouldn't work
[13:26:34] <Aria> Also a squire is required to own armour
[13:26:41] <Bronz|work> Oh, is he?
[13:26:48] <Bronz|work> Is armour not nearly as expensive as I thought?
[13:27:03] <Aria> No it is. If you can't afford it, you can't be a knight
[13:27:10] <Aria> And if you can't be a knight you can't be a squire
[13:27:51] <Bronz|work> Oh ok.
[13:27:59] <Aria> My guess, though I didn't read it anywhere, is that you only need to prove that you can afford it, but then hold off on actually buying it until you're about ready to be knighted, so you won't grow out of it
[13:28:22] <Apsup> Would actual knights really travel alone/in tiny groups, so they couldn't have a pack-horse or cart.
[13:28:48] <Aria> If you haven't guessed, I am not writing historical fiction =P
[13:28:54] <Apsup> Also people can carry lots of shit on their back if needed, but I'm not sure how good backpack tech was in Knight-times.
[13:29:09] <Aria> Backpacks are easy to make. I can make a backpack
[13:29:19] <Aria> I assume tudor era backpacks were as good as modern backpacks
[13:29:22] <Apsup> A really good backpack.
[13:29:50] <Aria> I assume really good tudor era backpacks were as good as a default kinda bad modern backpack
[13:30:36] <Apsup> But yea, backpack could work for travel. If I can carry a stove, one could carry armor probably as well.
[13:32:05] <Bronz|work> A set of armour weighed as much as 15 to 30kg, I read.
[13:32:17] <Bronz|work> That's pretty heavy, but managable.
[13:32:41] <Apsup> Totally managable. Of course, there is also lots of other stuff, from food and whatnot other nessesities.
[13:32:41] <Aria> The weight isn't the problem, the shape of the cuirass is the problem
[13:32:59] <Aria> It's not a very backpack friendly shape
[13:33:27] <Aria> Though you can fill it with food and blankets
[13:33:53] <Apsup> And that's why you need good backpack, that's optimized for armor carrying.
[13:34:01] <Apsup> Not just a random sack on your back.
[13:35:23] <Aria> This guy has a knife sticking out of his pouch, and it looks a bit like a penis http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com
[13:36:03] <Bronz|work> It does.
[13:36:05] <Aria> Anyway, I think my character won't have plate armour, simply because then it fits better into the trope
[13:36:30] <Bronz|work> Aso, the breast piece is obvoulsy strapped to the front of the back-pack.
[13:36:59] <Bronz|work> Whereas the back part of the cuirass is used as a part for it to attack to your back, so it's ergonomically situated.
[13:40:28] <Aria> Okay, so in France, you did not have to own armour to be a squire. But someone had to gift it to you on the day you became a knight (Or you could just own some, it's fine)
[13:41:15] <Aria> (the guy knighting you didn't have to arrange that, you had to arrange that)
[13:41:48] <Bronz|work> Fair enough.
[13:41:58] <Bronz|work> So, is Daniel rich or poor?
[13:42:17] <Aria> Rich. Because he has to be cocky, right
[14:12:18] <Aria> With this level of wordiness, this is going to be well over 1000 pages
[14:12:22] <Aria> That's not okay, is it?
[14:15:30] <Aria> (But I'll start to worry about that once I've actually written half of them)
[14:17:27] <Bronz|work> eh, 's probablly fine
[14:18:41] <Apsup> From what ive heard writing a book requires writing it basically all over multiple times. You learn what to cut along the way
[14:19:16] <Aria> That sounds about right
[14:29:57] <Aria> ...So I'm researching weather this joke is era appropriate or not, and as part of that I'm reading this PDF
[14:30:20] <Aria> I've read 8 pages, and was thinking it's getting a bit long
[14:30:35] <Aria> It's 306 pages...
[14:31:13] <Aria> Who writes 306 pages about this stuff?!
[14:31:44] <Aria> And its a bad font too.
[14:40:57] <Bronz|work> So, I use the Alt+f2 command to launch something, but I think because the terminal is closed directly after executing, the process I launched closes almost immidiatly.
[14:41:00] <Bronz|work> that's no good!
[14:41:32] <Aria> As long as gnome is running, your alt f2 thing should continue to run, no?
[14:44:50] <Bronz|work> Well, doesn't seem to be working?
[14:45:21] <Bronz|work> Oh, I see the problem now!
[14:45:27] <Bronz|work> It's my fault, typo.
[14:50:56] <Aria> So are we having guests or no?
[14:51:08] <Aria> (Because I would like no. I'm quite sleepy)
[14:52:59] <Bronz|work> Well the guests have left work already
[14:53:12] <Bronz|work> And I didn't tell them anything specific.
[14:53:14] <Bronz|work> So, not sure?
[14:53:22] <Aria> You're so good at plans
[14:54:55] <Bronz|work> (y)
[15:05:55] <Bronz|work> So he was still in the office, and he cancelled on me?
[15:06:11] <Aria> Oh.
[15:06:14] <Aria> Okay..
[15:06:21] <Aria> Then I will go nap
[15:51:36] <Aria> What's a good dragon name?
[15:53:20] <Aria> Nvm. I named him Rullonullo.
[15:53:24] <Aria> Tell me if you have a better one.
[18:44:18] -!- Bronzdragon [Bronzdragon!B-Dawg@hide-57D02771.agg2.bdt.bdt-fng.eircom.net] has joined #geeknights
[18:44:25] <Bronzdragon> Hello!
[20:35:52] -!- Bronzdragon has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[21:34:39] <Apsup> Rullonullo is really silly name. Esp. for a dragon.
[21:36:17] <Aria> Yes!
[21:36:33] <Aria> Bronz|work, made me change it
[21:36:37] <Aria> Its something boring now
[21:36:45] <Aria> Like "Frank"
[21:36:55] <Apsup> Frank the Dragon.
[21:37:27] <Apsup> Although, assuming that every dragon's surname is Dragon is kinda stereotyping.
[21:37:44] <Apsup> They are majestetic creatures and could have names more elaborate.
[21:37:47] <Aria> But I think it's accurate

[21:38:09] <Aria> (Y)
[21:39:59] <Apsup> Our current weekly tabletop rpg campaign has a dragon in the group. I don't remember it's name though. It's big and mighty and likes to boast about it.
[21:40:27] <Aria> Is the dragon one of the players or an NPC?
[21:40:35] <Apsup> It's a playercharacter.
[21:41:04] <Aria> That's neat
[21:41:06] <Apsup> I think the archetype was intented for more of the "dragon in human form" -type character, but we just have a literal, though bit small, dragon.
[21:42:28] <Aria> I don't like the dragon in human form trope. Because then you don't have a dragon anymore
[21:42:34] <Aria> You just have a main character
[21:45:05] <Apsup> Well, the game is kinda based on the "collection of fantasy heroes raise up together to face evil" thing, so characters being awesome cool dudes fits it.
[21:45:42] <Apsup> Also the thing being collaborative and having rules, keeps it interesting in ways that just a book with similar setup might not be.
[21:49:37] <Aria> ALright, we'll be heading to bed
[21:49:43] <Aria> Good night from both of us
[21:50:26] <Apsup> night night
