[08:27:40] <Bronz|work> Hai Apsup
[08:38:11] -!- Aria [Aria!~Aria@hide-57D02771.agg2.bdt.bdt-fng.eircom.net] has joined #geeknights
[08:39:19] <Bronz|work> hi Aria
[08:39:40] <Aria> Morning
[08:40:01] <Bronz|work> So I'm trying to sign into IBM's wifi, right?
[08:40:09] <Aria> Aha?
[08:40:16] <Bronz|work> But every time I try, I get to the 3's "You're out of credit" page.
[08:40:39] <Bronz|work> Because apperantly, I'm not fully connected, so it tries to use the phone's connection...
[08:40:53] <Aria> Yeah.
[08:41:12] <Bronz|work> I managed to make it work.
[08:41:20] <Aria> Right, Ima brb
[08:41:37] <Bronz|work> 'k
[08:46:48] <Aria> There's a giant spider in the bathroom
[08:46:54] <Aria> I don't like it.
[08:51:11] <Bronz|work> Oh, I think I saw it at some point yesterday, and forgot to get rid of it.
[08:51:24] <Bronz|work> Anyway, just put a cup over it, slide some paper under, and bring it outside.
[08:51:37] <Aria> But it's so big. It'll overpower me
[08:52:24] <Bronz|work> Oh, yeah, didn't consider that...
[08:52:31] <Bronz|work> Well, leave it there until it starves?
[09:11:25] <Aria> So Rock Paper Shotgun posted an article on the game Rimworld, calling it sexist because female NPCs are less likely to initiate relationships, and because female NPCs will always have a very small percentage chance of accepting initiating by other female NPCs, while male NPCs can be 100% looking for men or 100% looking for women
[09:12:24] <Aria> Which okay, but in the article, it says the dev refused an interview. When actually, he wanted his responses represented in the article verbatim
[09:13:42] <Aria> He tweeted this as a response to "Why didn't you include the interview with the dev?" ""you aren't allowed to edit my responses" is like ... dude, you know what our job as writers is, right?"
[09:14:18] <Bronz|work> Hmm...
[09:28:50] <Apsup> Morning.
[09:29:00] <Apsup> Little late with this, but such happens.
[09:30:11] <Apsup> In the RPS article it was mentioned that he wanted "editorial control" and thus was not interviewed, and that's a little roundabout way of saying things, but same thing.
[09:31:08] <Apsup> The dev also went to a cute little rant on the comments. I did like the part where reporting on a feature of a game and basing that on evidence based on the code itself is not journalsm.
[09:31:25] <Apsup> I think the man has mixed up journalsm with "free PR".
[09:32:38] <Bronz|work> Now I'm mixed on how to feel about this issue.
[09:32:51] <Bronz|work> Can you guys just tell me who is in the right and who I should agree with?
[09:33:04] <Aria> Editorial control to me reads like he wanted to read the article and be able to veto it
[09:33:26] <Aria> At the very least, if not wanting even more control
[09:33:45] <Bronz|work> Isn't that how most interviews work? You get a veto at the end so that your words can't end up being used against you?
[09:33:55] <Aria> Having to not split up his quotes is fine, just put it at the end
[09:36:00] <Aria> Judging based on this, probably not, at least with RPS. But I think that it should be
[09:36:26] <Apsup> Ultimately I don't think having his interview would have helped much.
[09:37:09] <Aria> I'm always more interested in hearing what the guy making the product has to say than journalists
[09:37:57] <Bronz|work> It's not what the Journalist has to say, but rather what the game says on behalf of the creater.
[09:38:00] <Bronz|work> *creator
[09:38:38] <Apsup> Basically that. It wasn't about the creator is was about the system in the game.
[09:39:18] <Apsup> And the code made it pretty clear what's going on in there.
[09:40:11] <Bronz|work> That said, you could always justify it with being more like a exaggerated version of real life.
[09:40:52] <Aria> You say that, but if the game has taken a year + to make, I could easily see that the RPG guy didn't realize how two systems influence the same stats or a number of other things that make the game behave differently from what he took away from it.
[09:40:58] <Aria> Also is it not a closed source game?
[09:41:17] <Aria> Also he didn't actually post code snippets in the article but psudo code which who knows how accurate it is
[09:43:18] <Apsup> It's open source, apparently. I felt that the pseudo code snippets were pretty useless, and it could have had pieces of orginal code and verbal exlanations what it means for same if not better effect.
[09:44:07] <Bronz|work> Well, if the code is fairly spread out, that might also be difficult.
[09:44:46] <Apsup> And don't forget that the creator went in comments and wrote that in his experience there are no bisexual men, so it's not like it's some unintended thing in the code.
[09:46:03] <Aria> Of course he did =P
[09:46:08] <Aria> Should've written that in the article, because it wasn't the top rated comment, so I didn't see it.
[09:52:20] <Aria> Ok 2012 UK stats, the male bisexual population is 20% the size of the gay population, the female bisexual population is 70% the size of the female gay population
[09:53:04] <Bronz|work> Hmm... that's not what I expected.
[09:54:00] <Aria> So to have that represented in the game, I could easily see you abstracting it to all vs none, or a more extreme version of the same numbers, because you don't see millions of NPCs, and for most of them you don't pay close enough attention to learn this stuff ]
[09:57:57] <Bronz|work> I got my bonus today.
[09:58:13] <Aria> That's nice
[09:58:18] <Bronz|work> €600
[09:58:29] <Aria> Oh that's not a bunch
[09:58:34] <Aria> But I guess its better than 0
[10:00:06] <Bronz|work> If I got one more late, I would've been in a disiplinary, and not gotten my bonus.
[10:00:11] <Bronz|work> ... I have since gotten one more late =P
[10:01:06] <Aria> >.> Stop waking up two minutes before your bus
[10:03:02] <Bronz|work> =3
[10:03:58] <Aria> I'm listening two Skyfall by Vitas, I think it's a new song, it's pretty okay
[10:07:28] <Aria> Oh it's a cover of song from new James Bond. The Vitas version is much better
[11:00:56] <Bronz|work> It might be a little late, but you should've posted your Levi to https://www.reddit.com
[11:01:30] <Aria> They would tell me to give her big tits.
[11:02:01] <Bronz|work> Hmm, so far none of the comments are like that.
[11:04:32] <Aria> Well I'm still not done, need to add hair and camp outfit
[11:04:46] <Bronz|work> But you can definetly ask for anatomy help
[11:05:00] <Bronz|work> And there's actual artists there, what study anatomy, so they'll be able to more easily point out issues.
[14:00:11] <Aria> I like how you subtly say I'm not an artist despite making art
[14:02:24] <Bronz|work> The "Actual artists what study anatomy" was supposed to be one part
[14:02:36] <Bronz|work> Because you're an artist what does NOT study anatomy
[14:02:44] <Aria> Aha
[14:03:00] <Bronz|work> That's my defence, anyway
[14:03:16] <Aria> The new version of my makehuman plugin has like 400 base meshes
[14:03:20] <Aria> Which is cool
[15:32:41] <Bronz|work> I'm a little tired, dispite the good nap
[15:33:02] <Bronz|work> I think that's partially because of the dull work though.
[15:36:23] <Bronz|work> Apperantly, it's my reddit 'cakeday' today
[15:36:26] <Bronz|work> So that's neat?
