[06:32:22] <Bronz|work> hi Apsup.
[06:33:50] <Apsup> Morning Bronz.
[06:50:26] <Apsup> My face is dry again. So dry that it could be used as a map for a desert.
[07:06:35] <Bronz|work> I don't... yeah, ok.
[07:06:43] <Bronz|work> If it's an issue, maybe use some cream?
[07:07:17] <Apsup> I did. It's slightly better now.
[10:30:16] -!- Aria [Aria!Aria@hide-57D02771.agg2.bdt.bdt-fng.eircom.net] has joined #geeknights
[10:33:01] <Aria> Hi
[10:37:02] <Bronz|work> HELLO!
[10:37:11] <Bronz|work> HOW ARE YOU TO-DAY
[10:37:17] <Bronz|work> How are you one-day?
[10:37:27] <Aria> Two day then, surely
[10:37:52] <Aria> I'm wondering if I could put my game on Playstation
[10:38:12] <Aria> GTA got on there, so it should be okay
[10:39:11] <Bronz|work> That's M (17+)
[10:39:18] <Bronz|work> Not AO, which you might get slapped with.
[10:39:36] <Bronz|work> Also, Haakon got me a pizza from the cafeteria!
[10:39:38] <Bronz|work> This is the best.
[10:39:47] <Aria> That sounds very nice
[10:40:17] <Aria> Dead Space is also M, right? That has pretty graphic violence
[10:42:24] <Bronz|work> Less nakedness though.
[10:43:16] <Aria> That's okay. gotta be smart with that camera
[10:46:10] <Aria> According to GiantBomb, the following console games feature rape: South Park. Beyond Two Souls. Silent Hill. Postal. The Witcher 2. Kane and Lynch, Alpha Protocol, Heavy Rain, Fear 2, Suikoden, Haunting Ground, School Days, Corpse Party
[12:07:17] <Bronz|work> How come halfway you switched from periods to commas?
[12:12:21] <Aria> Periods are weird to use in that context
[12:12:28] <Aria> I think I was missing the button
[12:37:33] <Aria> So Oblivion apperantly got in trouble with the ESRB. They rated the game based on what Zenimax said was in it. Nude mods came out and parents complained. ESRB double checked the game to get people to stop complaining, and realized that it has murder in it and was very cross with Zenimax
[12:47:57] <Bronz|work> Btw, have you read my cleandesk emails yet?
[12:48:04] <Aria> No
[12:48:34] <Aria> Also PEGI says that Mafia 3 does not feature discrimination significant enough to factor into the age rating
[12:49:01] <Aria> It's still 18+ though, because it's violent
[12:49:32] <Aria> "It contains: Extreme violence - Multiple, motiveless killing - Violence towards defenceless people - Graphic sexual activity showing genitalia - Strong language - Realistic looking violence"
[12:54:18] <Aria> the USK website banner is pretty good
[12:54:24] <Aria> http://www.usk.de
[12:58:00] <Aria> USK says that if you have a very strong narrative, where players are mentally invested in the fight scenes, the game needs to be 18+, but when it's game-y and poorly presented, your violent murder game will be rated 16+
[13:01:06] <Bronz|work> Yeah, that banner is pretty alright.
[13:01:19] <Bronz|work> Not sure about USK 6/0 though.
[13:01:40] <Aria> Also, 18+ in Germany doesn't mean you can do whatever you want
[13:02:06] <Aria> If you have to kill all enemies to clear a level, the game will be refused a rating
[13:02:22] <Aria> If the main goal of the game is violence, it'll be refused a rating
[13:02:51] <Aria> And if the game's narrative promotes vigilante justice, it'll be refused a rating
[13:02:57] <Aria> And can't be sold in stores
[13:03:04] <Apsup> Wouldn't that in theory mean that some old arcade games would not get rating?
[13:03:05] <Aria> Also, I've just described most video games.
[13:03:23] <Bronz|work> Yup.
[13:05:39] <Aria> Also USK actually plays the games as part of their review process
[13:11:10] <Aria> They also choose what genre your game is? Why is that a thing
[13:54:26] <Aria> Final Fantasy 14 has a new expansion with a Tekken trailer
[13:56:18] <Bronz|work> Oh?
[13:57:04] <Aria> Its called Stormblood
[13:59:23] <Aria> Its about two Tekken characters who are chilling on a giant statue, and then decide they need to fight. They fight a bit, and it cuts to the base of the statue, and the towns folk are like "Oh those two are at it again"
[14:03:36] <Bronz|work> ... ok that sounds cool.
[14:05:26] <Aria> Also if you are in the USA, and send Sony your receipt for your fat PS3, and also have some sort of proof that you at some point had Linux on that PS3, they will send you 55 USD as an apology for deleting your Linux and not letting you reinstall that Linux
[14:06:46] <Aria> "I'm here with <guy>, tell me a bit about your product" says the interviewer, expecting <guy> to say "It's Smash Brothers."
[14:07:06] <Aria> But instead the guy says it's inspired by, and then lists every single Smash clone
[14:07:31] <Aria> And the interviewer says "Ah, okay, so it's a lot like Smash Brothers then"
[14:07:35] <Aria> And then the video cut!
[14:07:43] <Bronz|work> ...
[14:08:04] <Aria> (To the rest of the interview. But you know. Someone said something that shouldn't go in the video in between there)
[14:10:05] <Aria> What...?
[14:10:41] <Aria> "We heard you talking earlier with someone about how you made a lot of this game by yourself. Can you tell us about that?"
[14:11:38] <Aria> "So yeah, we are using Unity, but we had to manually make a lot of the collisions and animations and everything"
[14:12:06] <Aria> Interviewer responded with "That's impressive". How else did you expect to make your video game?!
[14:20:27] <Aria> Lego Dimensions has Sonic in it?
[14:24:15] <Aria> The trailer for Summer Lesson English is the Japanese trailer with like fansubs on top of all the Japanese text
[14:27:21] <Bronz|work> 'course, what else?
[14:27:55] <Aria> Who wants to read subtitles in VR?
[14:29:20] <Bronz|work> 'k bye.
[14:29:25] <Aria> Bye
[14:29:58] -!- Bronz|work has quit [Quit: leaving]
[22:30:40] <Aria> Apsup
[22:30:53] <Aria> Help me figure out how much work my game is
[22:31:26] <Aria> I did some math and figured out how much dialog I need for inter party interactions, which is the main feature
[22:31:34] <Aria> Or the main fun part
[22:31:56] <Aria> Now I need to figure out how much content I need between each instance of interacting with your party
[22:38:18] <Apsup> Are you sure you are approaching the whole thing in right direction?
[22:39:09] <Aria> I want to write out all my features, so I can see how much code I need, and all my cutscenes, so I know how much writing and pictures I need
[22:39:11] <Apsup> All I know is that planning is hard and I feel like that's one of the main difficulties of video game kickstarters.
[22:39:32] <Apsup> Because it's hard to actually know how much work a game actually is.
[22:39:41] <Aria> I mean, I'm not doing a kickstarter =P I'm just writing it for myself to know if I should dedicate time to this
[22:39:51] <Aria> I've only had this idea for two/three days now
[22:39:52] <Apsup> Sure, but I meant that as example.
[22:40:10] <Apsup> Even people who do stuff with big money and people with experience can struggle with that.
[22:40:19] <Apsup> You just gotta do and learn.
[22:40:20] <Aria> Sure, I'll do *10 at the end
[22:40:33] <Apsup> Then trash the whole thing 60% in and start from beginning.
[22:42:14] <Aria> Hey it's better than not planing at all, right?
[22:43:10] <Apsup> Sure, but be preperad that during execution you find things that you didn't plan for.
