[08:24:01] <Bronz|work> hi apsup.
[08:24:56] <Apsup> Hallo!
[09:22:44] <Bronz|work> How goes!
[12:46:38] -!- Aria [Aria!Aria@hide-57D02771.agg2.bdt.bdt-fng.eircom.net] has joined #geeknights
[12:46:48] <Bronz|work> Happy afternoon.
[12:47:34] <Aria> Hey
[12:49:44] <Apsup> hihii
[12:50:13] <Aria> Why are the men and womens outfits for Olympic runners different?
[12:52:19] <Aria> Specifically, the women have exposed midriffs while the men do not. Surely the ideal amount of midriff coverings would not change depending on gender
[12:53:28] <Aria> Men also have longer shorts
[12:53:30] <Aria> Or shorts at all
[12:56:09] <Apsup> So, exposed midriffs and shorts to everyone?
[12:56:40] <Aria> If if makes you run faster, yeah
[12:57:33] <Aria> Also apparently, they wear shoes that are made around their feet, that you cut open with scissors when you want to take off
[13:02:37] <Aria> For the London Olympics at least, it seems it was because of dresscode. In fact, many atheletes complained and wanted to wear more stuff. Also you were originally required to wear a skirt for boxing, but it was changed
[13:03:07] <Apsup> skirt for boxing?
[13:03:15] <Bronz|work> Yeah, clothes are regulated. You're not allowed to wear whatever you want.
[13:03:23] <Apsup> That's unexpected.
[13:03:37] <Bronz|work> Partially because some athletes would go naked, because y'know, I would if I was in the Olympics.
[13:04:00] <Aria> All the articles I'm finding is about wanting to wear more though
[13:13:13] <Aria> There's a article on washington post about allowing shorts in womens beach volleyball, and so many of the comments are saying "If they aren't wearing bikinis I'm not watching!" directly followed by "What's the big deal? No one is sexualizing the atheletes!" =P
[13:13:19] <Aria> As in, by the same person
[13:14:28] <Bronz|work> Ah, irony.

[13:15:17] <Aria> Anyway, I got my answer. It's mandated by the oraganizer, based on what they think will bring in the most views
[13:17:41] <Bronz|work> Yup, pretty much.
[14:11:52] <Bronz|work> Hey Aria, what's the difference between 'et nummer', 'et siffer', and 'et tall'.
[14:12:27] <Aria> A number vs a digit vs a integer
[14:13:27] <Aria> Or I don't know =P They're different words for the same thing, but I'm sure to someone who knows math the difference is important
[14:13:38] <Aria> Ask your co workers
[14:13:55] <Aria> Also this guy had never heard of the Olympics
[14:13:59] <Aria> He's 24 years old
[14:14:09] <Aria> (sas)
[14:24:09] <Bronz|work> I asked Mathias
[14:24:21] <Aria> And?
[14:24:39] <Bronz|work> He said it was "number for houses and phones and stuff", "One used in math" and "Like the last one, but child friendly?)
[14:25:30] <Bronz|work> Btw, Dutch also has three words, but I'm not sure how they map onto the Norwegian ones.
