[06:49:13] <Bronz|work> Apsup.
[06:58:35] <Apsup> morning
[07:07:57] <Bronz|work> Stupid DEP.
[07:10:17] <Apsup> dep.
[07:33:03] <Bronz|work> It's ram protection.
[08:05:01] <Apsup> oh.
[08:24:31] <Bronz|work> Anything it considers 'data', it cannot run as a program.
[08:24:47] <Bronz|work> This prevents me from viewing certain webpages.

[09:19:28] <Churba> blaaaah
[09:22:08] <Churba> Hey all
[09:33:33] <Bronz|work> Heeey
[09:34:30] <aria> Hello
[09:39:48] <Churba> How goes
[09:39:49] <Churba> ?
[09:51:08] <Churba> Also, yo, Enforcer badge design mock-ups
[09:51:08] <Churba> http://i.imgur.com
[09:51:40] <Churba> The box around the E is just an artifact of the design program, won't be in final
[09:51:52] <Churba> (The white box, that is)
[09:55:58] <aria> Are you asking if we prefer yellow over black
[09:57:08] <aria> Probably black for a physical badges, unless you can get a really bright yellow
[10:03:43] <Bronz|work> Maybe have a thicker black border around the yellow E?
[10:03:49] <Bronz|work> I dunno, both are pretty decent.
[10:05:28] <Churba> Good ideas - though I'm making both, they're coming in both black, and with the E in the colour of every PAX, ie Blue, Red, Yellow, South
[10:06:55] <Bronz|work> ... what colours is south?
[10:07:01] <Churba> I don't know
[10:07:09] <Bronz|work> Guns and moonshine?
[10:07:28] <Churba> It seems to be kind of a...burnt orange?
[10:07:39] <Bronz|work> I can see that.
[10:11:09] <Churba> Oh, and RE the colours - I'm going to mirror the site colours. It's going to look a little different on the mock-up, since the colour comes out of the printer slightly different, but I can adjust for that.
[10:14:38] <Churba> But the thicker border is an ace idea, I'll be doing that tomorrow
[10:15:53] <Bronz|work> Aww yeah!
[10:18:24] <Churba> Black will be the standard - since we put on the black, as it were - with the colours as optional, if people want to order them.
[10:21:19] <aria> Isn't it cheaper to print a bunch of yellow stickers
[10:21:22] <aria> and stick those on
[10:21:46] <aria> Questionmark
[10:22:02] <Churba> On the badges, or on the people?
[10:22:20] <aria> People. No I meant instead of the colored badges having yellow Es
[10:22:32] <aria> just have the badge with no E, then you stick on a E sticker in yellow
[10:22:43] <aria> Well a white sticker with a yellow E on it
[10:22:50] <Churba> Suprisingly not
[10:22:58] <aria> Alright
[10:23:01] <aria> I was wrong then
[10:25:29] <Churba> With printing badges straight, I have labor, ribbon, magnet and printstock cost, plus labor for cutting stock down, since they print two at a time on a card the size of a credit card or so, along with putting on the magnets. It's a pretty efficent process - I made sure of that when I made the process, before I sold the business
[10:27:21] <Churba> With sticker labels, I've got to print(or get printed) the stickers, cut them down(or get them cut), lay them on and trim, on top of practically the same process with the badge itself. Plus, it won't look as good, nor last as long - the sublimation printed badges are practically invincible, and despite the slightly dodgy mock-up, look slick as buggery
[10:28:42] <Churba> The printing process itself on the badges is basically similar to printing with a regular paper printer, it's just different feedstock, and a much fancier printer, so it ends up cheaper running them off templates and printing the whole thing in one whack.
[11:11:52] <Churba> BUT
[11:12:13] <Churba> I think I have a project where I can use that idea, so even if it's not on this one, thank you for the idea - I think that might have been the breakthrough I needed, thank you
[11:12:38] <Bronz|work> So my co-worker didn't know how to solve a problem. She told the caller that she'd forward his problem to a different group. I know the answer. Do I call the user back immidiatly and solve his problem, which would actually be better?
[11:12:58] <Bronz|work> Or do I wait a few minutes, to make it seem she did some work?
[11:12:58] <Churba> Office politics, tricky
[11:13:27] <Churba> That depends, what would the side-effects of doing it immediately be? Solving the problem is a given, of course.
[11:13:28] <Bronz|work> Why can't real life be Black and white where the good thing to do is always better?
[11:13:45] <Bronz|work> Well, that's the thing, if I actually solve it, no problem
[11:13:55] <Bronz|work> But there's a chance the problem isn't solved, and the customer would be unhappy.
[11:14:29] <Churba> hm
[11:14:34] <Churba> How sure are you that you can solve it?
[11:15:02] <Bronz|work> Well, local IT said they had already tried and failed. The procedure seems simple though.
[11:15:29] <Bronz|work> So that depends on how compitent I think those people are. They're new, so i don't actually know.
[11:15:48] <Churba> In that case, I'd wait a few minutes, then make the call
[11:17:31] <Bronz|work> Thanks.
[11:17:43] <Bronz|work> That guy probably doesn't need his VPN solution that badly anyway.
[11:18:10] <Churba> Not that he can't spare five
[11:19:20] <aria> All the Eidos games are currently 55USD. 34 games and some DLC
[11:19:24] <aria> its a pretty good deal
[11:20:08] <Churba> urrrgh, I want it, but that would cut into PAX funds, and that's a big no-no, I'm running close to the line as it is
[11:20:45] <Bronz|work> Get someone else to buy it for you!
[11:21:18] <Churba> Naw, I'd just feel bad about that. I'm intending to switch careers after PAX
[11:21:56] <aria> Get someone to buy it for you, then pay them back a few weeks
[11:21:56] <Bronz|work> More lucarative or more fun?
[11:22:02] <Churba> Propably, anyway.
[11:22:23] <Churba> Hopefully both, to be honest - if it pays less than freelance journalisim, I'd really be in the shit.
[11:24:04] <Churba> I don't know what. I might even go back to uni
[11:24:08] <Churba> Or rather, Go to uni, I guess
[11:24:38] <Churba> Considering that most of the time I've ever been at a Uni was for theatre stuff, work, tutoring, assisting, or at one point, broadcast radio
[11:26:27] <Bronz|work> Uni could be fun, probably
[11:26:53] <Churba> I've got a lot of options open, I guess. I could become a mechanic again, finish my apprenticeship on paper properly, but apprenticeships are compeditive, poorly paid, and people don't so much want 27 year old apprentices, despite government incentives. I could become a painter again, but it was fucking boring. I could churn out torrid bodice rippers, which would be a laugh, but I'd still need another job to pay rent.
[11:27:21] <Churba> (Until I became famous and get robert pattionson to play the lead despite looking like a foot)
[11:28:56] <Bronz|work> Start a farm?
[11:30:11] <Churba> Wouldn't be a bad idea. I don't mind farming.
[11:30:47] <Churba> I could go back to flying. Hell, I used to make more than Rym, back then, made enough to support myself in another country for a two-year stretch.
[11:31:08] <Bronz|work> Wait, how is flying not your first choice?
[11:33:14] <Churba> Because, I'll be brutally - propably a little too much so - honest: It's going to be wicked hard breaking back in, even with previous experience, when every interview I'm facing off against 300 pretty, fresh-faced young-uns, and hoping that experience and a little charm will get me through being too old, tall enough to be troublesome for some airframes, and having a face like a smashed crab
[11:33:41] <Churba> And that's assuming, with my current resume, that I beat out the 1000+ applicants to even get to the group stage
[11:35:18] <Churba> There's certainly very little call for gentleman's vallets anymore
[11:36:39] <Bronz|work> I see.
[11:36:43] <Bronz|work> That's a shame.
[11:37:05] <Churba> I agree.
[11:37:52] <Churba> I mean, no reason to not try anyway - my approach has always been shotgun and luck, and if luck got me in the first time, it might just get me over the line a second time.
[11:38:20] <Churba> And I say it will be hard - it was hard the first time, too, so maybe I should shut up and stop being such a fucking punk about it.
[11:38:52] <Bronz|work> Nah, I think being a lil' punk and wallowing is definetly the right choice.
[11:39:03] <Bronz|work> I mean, how else would I be able to feel bad about myself.
[11:39:23] <Churba> If you need help with that I can sort you out anytime with expert advice, clearly
[11:39:52] <Churba> Waaa, waaa, I'm old and a bit funny lookin', shut up and get the job done gibbs
[11:40:47] <Bronz|work> Man, this is the best, don't even need to come up with half-decent pep talks.
[11:40:55] <Bronz|work> Anyway, so, go do that thing or whatever.
[11:52:58] <aria> Churba, do you know Active Directory?
[11:53:15] <aria> Oh also you should go for being a pilot
[11:53:18] <aria> cause that seems fun
[11:53:40] <Churba> You mean, the domain controller thing?
[11:53:52] <Churba> I think Microsoft makes it, but that's all I know about it.
[11:54:15] <aria> Yes and yes,
[11:54:19] <Churba> You know, I can fly a plane, though my licence lapsed ages ago. like, almost a decade.
[11:54:20] <aria> and alright, thanks
[11:54:44] <aria> If I ever need a plane flown, I know who to call
[11:56:24] <Churba> I was never jet-rated though, I only managed my PPL and Basic acrobatics, which is far less exciting than it sounds.
[11:57:41] <aria> Jet-rated sounds pretty cool
[11:57:45] <aria> They should put that on movies
[11:57:55] <aria> "Get the uncut Jet-rated special edition"
[11:58:07] <Churba> Some dude with a bushy moustache and a british accent pats you on the shoulder, says "You're a jet now, old chap."
[11:58:18] <aria> =D
[11:58:23] <Bronz|work> Wait, you become the jet?
[11:58:26] <Bronz|work> Sign me up!
[11:58:55] <Churba> Be the change you want to see in the world? Fuck that, BE A JET
[12:06:47] <Churba> You know, if I had the money, I'd just get all-the-way into racing
[12:09:16] <Bronz|work> Are you any good though?
[12:10:08] <Churba> Huh
[12:11:25] <Churba> Well, at risk of sounding like I'm bragging, yeah, I'm pretty good. I've been doing it on-and-off since I was a kid. Came third in my first rally, against experienced adults. I keep my hand in still, too - I was out most of the day today doing trial runs with the car for next year's Great Endeavor rally
[12:11:30] <Churba> (Though I'm not driving the race)
[12:12:58] <Churba> (Should note, I was 18 for my first rally, so technicallly an adult too, but everyone else had at least 10 years on me)
[12:13:09] <Bronz|work> I thought that people who race for a living get sponsors.
[12:13:30] <Churba> I'm no world-beater right now, but I could always practice and work on it.
[12:13:57] <Bronz|work> Man, if only you had like, way more time to do stuff
[12:14:00] <Churba> Many do, in the real big leauges. Mid level pros, depending on the series, not always.
[12:14:18] <Churba> Man, if I could just sleep maybe once a week, it would be so nice
[12:15:28] <Churba> And when you're in the mid-level stuff, you can get away with smaller, easier to get sponsors - mechanic shops/small chains, more local stores.
[12:15:46] <Churba> But you still need the cash outlay to start, that's the hard part.
[12:16:38] <Churba> Hell, if I had the money, I'd just go full Ken Block - Race in as many different disiplines as I could, do dumb promo shit on the side.
[12:17:16] <Churba> I mean, sure, he's started off sponsored by DC shoes, but he also owns DC shoes, so there you go.
[12:17:36] <Bronz|work> That's barely a sponsorship anymoer then.
[12:19:06] <Churba> He's sponsored by Monster Energy now too, though - mostly in their ongoing competition with Red Bull to have the most people doing crazy shit
[12:20:35] <Churba> https://www.youtube.com
[12:20:39] <Churba> I mean, look at this shit
[12:20:47] <Churba> it's nuts.
[12:20:56] <Bronz|work> I would if I wasn't at work.
[12:21:26] <Churba> (I'm also not fool enough to say I could do that - I've not driven a trophy truck before, so I don't know if I could handle it.)
[12:21:45] <Churba> The spirit is willing, but the skills are an unknown variable
[13:34:33] <Bronz|work> I have 1.27 vacation days remaining.
[13:34:36] <Bronz|work> Hmmm...
[13:40:10] <Churba> What are you going to do with .27 of a vacation day? Take a celebratory nap?>
[13:40:25] <Bronz|work> That's like, 2 hours 5 minutes.
[13:40:33] <Bronz|work> I dunno, go home early at some point?
[13:40:37] <Churba> Power nap then
[13:40:40] <Bronz|work> Take off an early friday, probably.
[13:40:47] <Churba> That's a good idea
[13:40:48] <Bronz|work> Oeh, better yet, come in late on Monday!
[13:40:54] <Churba> EVEN BETTER
[13:41:12] <Churba> Taking an early mark is nice, but late starts are better
[13:41:17] <Bronz|work> Maybe I should do that with my whole day too.
[13:41:26] <Bronz|work> Just split it up and start 2 hours late for an entire week!
[13:41:58] <Churba> Or split it even further, and come in late for an entire month
[13:42:17] <Bronz|work> Half an hour later is not worth it as much, I think.
[13:43:02] <Churba> Well, you've got a day and a bit
[13:43:14] <Churba> oh wait
[13:43:16] <Churba> I'm an idiot
[13:43:33] <Churba> I forgot that a work day is 8 hours, not 24 hours
[13:43:41] <Bronz|work> Ah, yeah.
[13:43:59] <Churba> And now you see why I want to maybe change into a different career
[13:44:16] <Churba> Still, in either case, coming in late for a week is a pretty wicked idea
[13:45:35] <Bronz|work> I'm a fan.
[13:46:12] <Churba> I always thought you were a bit of a breezy guy
[13:46:55] <Churba> Wonder if anyone's thought to make an AI that detects puns
[13:47:08] <Churba> because that would be cool
[13:48:28] <Churba> Except for the AI I guess
[13:48:33] <Churba> just looking at puns all day
[13:48:39] <Churba> what kind of a life is that
[13:48:51] <Churba> a young artificial intelligence should go out, see the world
[13:48:56] <Churba> experience puns in different languages
[13:49:17] <Bronz|work> It's true.
[13:49:40] <Bronz|work> Perhaps, one day, it'll discover the true nature of puns. Then he'll be the punmaster.
[13:50:34] <Churba> It comes back to it's creator, when he's old and doddery, in on his deathbed
[13:50:44] <Churba> his creator looks up and says "I'm suprised to see you"
[13:51:08] <Churba> the Pun ai looks down with his robot body, and with an oily tear in his eye says "hello suprised to see you, I'm the punmaster"
[13:52:01] <Bronz|work> Your story is, well...
[13:52:08] <Bronz|work> It's a special kind of..
[13:52:10] <Bronz|work> Uhm, special?
[13:52:18] <Churba> That's why they pay me the big bucks
[13:52:21] <Churba> wait
[13:52:22] <Churba> fuck
[13:52:33] <Bronz|work> If I had big bucks, I would pay you with them
[13:52:51] <Churba> Not very many, but they'd be quite large?
[13:52:52] <Bronz|work> Would you accept them the size of a shoe, or do they need to be bigger?
[13:53:16] <Churba> Man, wouldn't it be a pain in the ass if money was huge
[13:53:24] <Churba> physically, not like the beatles
[13:53:34] <Churba> though if the beatles were physically huge that'd be cool too
[13:53:45] <Bronz|work> Like, all of them?
[13:53:50] <Bronz|work> I could forsee some problems with that.
[13:54:09] <Bronz|work> Also, this web course I need to do seems to crash my browser every time I try.
[13:54:32] <Churba> That doesn't exactly inspire confidence
[13:54:43] <Bronz|work> Not at all.
[13:56:44] <Churba> Maybe this is the final test
[13:57:13] <Bronz|work> But it taught me nothing except that their software is crummy.
[13:57:49] <Churba> "Go now, Mr Bronz, we have taught you all that we know. I mean, clearly, we've taught you all that we know, because if we knew more our shit wouldn't be broken"
[13:58:19] <Bronz|work> They're rolling out a new IT portal. That's what the course is about.
[13:58:32] <Bronz|work> At first I thought it was my fault for having an outdated computer but...
[13:58:44] <Bronz|work> I've tried several things now, and I'm pretty sure it's your fault.
[14:32:05] <Bronz|work> I'm going home now
