[01:58:41] <Bronzdragon> hai nine...
[01:58:44] <Bronzdragon> Go to bed, Nine.
[02:04:49] -!- ruffas [ruffas!b85a3769@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] has joined #geeknights
[02:05:20] <ruffas> greetings future people
[02:05:57] <Bronzdragon> Oh hai ruffas!
[02:06:03] <Bronzdragon> Bring me news of days gone bye!
[02:06:12] <Bronzdragon> I suppose it's not news then anymore
[02:06:39] <ruffas> i just realized why Zed in MIB is Zed, not Z
[02:06:56] <Bronzdragon> *Shrugs*
[02:07:09] <ruffas> british Z
[02:07:55] <Bronzdragon> Eyap
[02:08:17] <ruffas> it took most of my life to realize that
[02:10:03] <ruffas> MIB 3 is very MIB thus far
[02:11:10] <Bronzdragon> I can imagine.
[02:11:27] <ruffas> how's the future?
[02:11:45] <Bronzdragon> Tiring
[02:13:28] <ruffas> oh?
[02:13:47] <Bronzdragon> Yeah
[02:13:51] <Bronzdragon> I'm tired ~_~
[02:14:14] <ruffas> http://25.media.tumblr.com
[02:14:25] <ruffas> that'll perk you right up
[02:14:55] <Bronzdragon> >_>
[02:15:00] <Bronzdragon> How was that supposed to perk me up?
[02:15:25] <ruffas> :P
[02:16:47] <ruffas> it's very red?
[02:16:58] <Bronzdragon> Not really, it's sort of pink-ish
[02:17:18] <ruffas> http://wtfevolution.tumblr.com is a fun blog regardless
[02:17:32] <Bronzdragon> So it is!
[02:20:00] <ruffas> you euro people have an odd sleeps schedule
[02:20:10] <ruffas> being awake at 3 in the morning
[02:20:38] <Bronzdragon> Yeah, I know...
[02:20:49] <Bronzdragon> I asked aria if I could sleep, but he said I had to talk to him a bit
[02:20:55] <Bronzdragon> And then he's not saying anything!
[02:21:00] <Bronzdragon> D=
[02:21:08] <ruffas> he seems particularly verbose today
[02:21:21] <Bronzdragon> Eyap
[02:21:56] <ruffas> hmm
[02:38:27] -!- Bronzdragon has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[02:44:58] <aria> So Ruffas
[02:45:02] <aria> Im a youtube partner now
[02:45:08] <aria> And I have no cluye why
[02:45:17] <aria> I think it's because Norway has like 2 youtube-people
[02:45:21] <aria> so just going by views---
[02:45:28] <aria> But all my crap is totally illegal
[02:45:39] <aria> it's like "Here's a dumb dialog from this dumb movie"
[02:45:59] <aria> So um.. what I do?
[02:46:18] <aria> Also why on earth?
[02:47:45] <aria> Im also considering doing a podcast now..
[02:53:33] <ruffas> cool
[02:53:43] <ruffas> why's your crap illegal
[02:54:16] <ruffas> dumb dialog doesn't seem too illegal
[02:54:30] <aria> Cause it's like.. a metal gear cutscene with a dudes face changed with a grapefruit
[02:54:37] <aria> rather than an original skit with a grapefruit in it
[02:55:16] <ruffas> hahaha
[02:55:46] <ruffas> do you get any perks for being a partner
[02:55:58] <aria> Well.. you can get paid
[02:56:02] <aria> I believe you get a banner somewhere
[02:56:05] <aria> but I didn't find the setting for that
[02:56:15] <aria> Then again, I haven't seen it in the most recent youtube
[02:56:16] <ruffas> that's cool
[02:56:19] <aria> so maybe the banner is gone
[02:56:48] <aria> You also get a thing for linking to a kickstarter or something? ^o)
[02:56:54] <ruffas> i don't see any banners
[02:57:29] <aria> Alright so I have a tab that wasn't there before
[02:57:32] <aria> which are the perks
[02:57:37] <ruffas> ooh
[02:58:01] <aria> Right so its having actual humans handle your copyright disputes
[02:58:05] <aria> rather than automated systems
[02:58:16] <aria> and you can have longer videos maybe? Although I think I could do that before too
[02:58:24] <ruffas> that's...nice
[02:58:34] <aria> Also I have access to a forum?
[02:58:37] <aria> Or something
[02:58:42] <ruffas> oh?
[02:58:44] <aria> and it linked me to this page http://support.google.com
[02:58:49] <aria> I don't think that's partner specific
[02:59:36] <ruffas> *shrug*
[02:59:47] <aria> Basically
[03:00:08] <aria> it's have a human skim throuhg your thing if you dispute a copyright claim
[03:00:18] <aria> but if you're a partner, you shouldn't be doing that anyway
[03:00:57] <ruffas> right
[03:01:24] <aria> Partners used to get a special banner over the video
[03:01:25] <aria> a tiny one
[03:01:31] <aria> I guess I don't get that =(
[03:01:37] <ruffas> aww
[03:01:47] <aria> Maybe everyone can be a "partner" now, and I'm not an "actual" partner?
[03:02:54] <ruffas> dunno
[03:03:30] <aria> Oh!
[03:03:34] <aria> I get custom thumbnails
[03:03:35] <aria> Fuck yeah
[03:03:35] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[03:03:37] <aria> Tits everywhere
[03:04:06] <ruffas> ooh
[03:04:31] <aria> Doesn't seem like there are any guidelines
[03:04:36] <aria> yknow, like "Don't put tits everywhere"
[03:05:00] <aria> Also, I can "schedule" videos to go public later than I upload them...
[03:05:21] <ruffas> that's neat
[03:06:07] <aria> I like how their sample image is a ceiling https://storage.googleapis.com
[03:06:20] <aria> Also, guidelines http://support.google.com
[03:07:06] <aria> " Thumbnails that are sexually suggestive, violent, or graphic may cause your video to be age-restricted. Age-restricted partner videos will not have advertising served against them and will not appear on browse pages."
[03:07:10] <aria> Grrr
[03:07:14] <ruffas> is that how people get busty ladies in their thumbnails
[03:07:27] <aria> Yes
[03:07:46] <aria> Also if you keep uploading tits, they take away your custom thumbnail power
[03:07:57] <aria> and you can /never get it back/
[03:08:07] <ruffas> but its
[03:08:12] <ruffas> tits*
[03:08:23] <aria> Wait, so I can't manually say to age-restrict a video and thus not be violating the guidelines?
[03:08:38] <ruffas> maybe?
[03:08:47] <aria> GauntletWizard: Can I manually age resitrct youtubes?
[03:08:58] <aria> And if so; Am I still breaking the rules by having tits in the thumbnail?
[03:09:29] <aria> Aww
[03:09:32] <aria> I thought I could do a "show"
[03:09:50] <aria> But apperantly that's exclusive for US, UK and French people
[03:10:07] <ruffas> hmm
[03:10:20] <aria> Shows get age ratings
[03:10:24] <aria> and you can set your own rating
[03:10:33] <aria> so Im assuming you can have tits in those thumbnails
[03:12:03] <aria> "We have two levels of rewards: channels with over 1 million subscribers, and channels with over 100,000 subscribers."
[03:12:11] <aria> I think you got that mixed up youtube...
[03:12:26] <ruffas> oh well
[03:13:44] <aria> "A channel only needs to pass the threshold once to qualify." Maybe there was a bug and I got lucky =P?
[03:14:50] <ruffas> don't complain
[03:15:06] <aria> I'm not, like I said, I'm honeslty considering doing a podcast
[03:15:13] <aria> but surely this must've been a slip up
[03:15:21] <ruffas> do a podcast on youtube
[03:15:26] <aria> That's what I meant
[03:15:42] <ruffas> then continue as planned
[03:16:02] <aria> Need someone to talk to. I could kidnap Dave.
[03:16:41] <ruffas> doubtful
[03:17:08] <aria> I could have dave willingly talk to me
[03:17:22] <ruffas> perhaps
[03:18:18] <aria> Oh fuck.
[03:18:18] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[03:18:34] <aria> So being a partner means when searching, my shit is gonna show up where it ain't belong
[03:18:35] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[03:18:45] <aria> Better start deleting some old crappy videos..
[03:18:46] <ruffas> oh no
[03:19:19] <aria> Wait, there is no opting out?
[03:19:44] <ruffas> you don't want internet millions?
[03:19:54] <aria> its 50 bucks per 100k views
[03:20:07] <ruffas> MILLIONS
[03:20:20] <aria> But getting 10 bucks for a podcast where I read slashdot and say the same things I would've anyway is free money. I moreso want the free audience
[03:20:21] <Robobuntoo> You can't getting ten bucks!
[03:20:33] <aria> I just don't want free audience to see things made prior to today
[03:20:45] <ruffas> hahaha
[03:21:42] <aria> I can also live stream now..
[03:21:49] <aria> Not sure if everyone can do that or not
[03:22:00] <ruffas> don't think so
[03:23:17] <ruffas> i gotta say though
[03:23:32] <ruffas> since youtube changed formats, i don't get korean ads as often
[03:23:44] <aria> That is bad, right?
[03:23:54] <ruffas> it's more usual
[03:24:07] <aria> Actually..
[03:24:13] <aria> I used to get Japanese and English ads
[03:24:18] <aria> now they're mostly Norwegian
[03:24:50] <ruffas> ahh
[03:27:28] <ruffas> i still don't know why they gave me korean ads in the first place
[03:27:35] <ruffas> i was there for a week
[03:27:57] <aria> Because Korean youtubes
[03:28:07] <ruffas> i didn't watch any there
[03:28:20] <aria> Ads probably related to the content you watch
[03:28:31] <aria> You haven't watched a kpop music video or something?
[03:28:44] <ruffas> a few before, but no ads
[03:29:02] <ruffas> and there was a special korean ad section
[03:29:07] <ruffas> not just suggested videos
[03:40:27] -!- spacejam has quit [Quit: ~ Trillian Astra - www.trillian.im ~]
[03:44:20] <ruffas> MIB3 was very MIB
[03:44:39] <aria> In a good way?
[03:45:07] <ruffas> that's implied
[03:45:23] <ruffas> it was more of the same, but i can't figure out why they skipped MIB2
[03:48:19] <aria> Because 3's always sell more than 2
[03:48:52] <ruffas> must be it
[03:50:31] <aria> So..
[03:50:33] <aria> Im tired
[03:50:36] <aria> but don't feel like sleeping..
[03:50:39] <aria> how do I fix that?
[03:51:40] <ruffas> good question
[03:51:46] <ruffas> have a nightcap?
[03:52:26] <ruffas> oh hey, it was groundhog day today
[03:52:31] <aria> Whats that?
[03:52:52] <ruffas> why it's how we americans predict the future
[03:53:17] <ruffas> we've got this animal, a groundhog
[03:53:30] <aria> I'm in the future
[03:53:33] <ruffas> we let it out of its burrow today
[03:53:33] <aria> I can tell you
[03:53:36] <aria> it's gonna snow a bunch
[03:53:41] <ruffas> farther in the future than you
[03:54:04] <aria> Oh you mean like New Zeland or some shit?
[03:54:05] <Robobuntoo> ...
[03:54:13] <ruffas> even further
[03:54:13] <aria> Oh wait
[03:54:20] <aria> isn't new zeland way in the past?
[03:54:21] <aria> I dunno
[03:54:30] <ruffas> it's the most future
[03:54:54] <ruffas> if he sees his shadow, there will be 6 more weeks of winter, if not, there's an early spring
[03:55:11] <aria> Rym: Why the fuck is your half an hour video gonna take 9 hours to render?
[03:55:12] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[03:55:18] <aria> Also use webm like a man.
[03:55:43] <ruffas> because all the Ps?
[03:55:57] <aria> which p's are these?
[03:56:14] <ruffas> 1080P, etc
[03:56:18] <aria> oh right
[03:56:37] <aria> yeah also 720 is more than good enough for essentially a podcast
[03:56:57] <aria> I like how he's doing 50mbps, but only 1 pass =P
[03:57:23] <ruffas> that much video talk is over my head
[03:57:33] <aria> high bitrate
[03:57:39] <aria> but low quality encoding
[03:58:36] <ruffas> ahh
[03:59:06] <ruffas> have you watched Polar Bear Cafe?
[03:59:12] <aria> I have not
[03:59:15] <aria> I do want to
[03:59:18] <aria> its in my watch list
[03:59:48] <ruffas> make it all of your watch list
[03:59:51] <ruffas> it is the best
[04:01:29] <aria> But--
[04:01:37] <ruffas> no buts!
[04:01:40] <aria> that would require me to remove so many things
[04:01:48] <aria> But I wanted to watch butts!
[04:02:02] <aria> (that's an actual thing in my watchlist. I don't think I added it)
[04:02:23] <ruffas> ...
[04:04:21] <ruffas> PBC is more important
[04:04:23] <ruffas> also better
[04:08:03] <aria> 'sir
[04:08:48] <ruffas> needs more PBC

[12:05:22] <Apsup> I trying to get going to visit store so I would have things to eat.

[13:06:26] <Bronzdragon> Oh, C'mon!
[13:21:09] <Bronzdragon> Y'know what? Alone in the Dark is a bad game
[13:21:15] <Bronzdragon> I don't like it

[13:52:50] <Bronzdragon> Hai ruffas
[13:53:02] <ruffas> mornin
[13:55:21] <Bronzdragon> Alone in the Dark is bad.
[13:55:43] <ruffas> oh?
[13:55:50] <ruffas> how so?
[13:56:47] <Bronzdragon> I spend... 15 minutes trying to do a 2 minute segment
[13:57:08] <Bronzdragon> Not because it was hard... but because the game, in those 2 minutes, could not NOT fuck up.
[13:57:09] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[13:57:34] <Bronzdragon> On the plus side, this cabinet is infinitely refilling.
[13:57:40] <Bronzdragon> And it has ammo and explosives, so that's good.
[14:04:01] <ruffas> i'll have to see what this game actually is
[14:04:59] <ruffas> oh, i've heard of that
[14:05:18] <Bronzdragon> They frame it as a movie
[14:05:24] <Bronzdragon> And it's very... scripted?
[14:05:30] <Bronzdragon> Moment to moment?
[14:05:55] <Bronzdragon> It doesn't have any tension though. The story is shit. The characters are bad, and so are their animations...
[14:05:56] <Robobuntoo> ...
[14:05:58] <Bronzdragon> so...
[14:06:05] <Bronzdragon> Oh, and the gameplay is annoying
[14:06:43] <ruffas> then why are you playing?
[14:06:57] <Bronzdragon> Because I forgot
[14:07:56] <ruffas> but you're still playing it
[14:08:30] <Bronzdragon> AmI?
[14:09:51] <ruffas> that was the impression i got
[14:10:00] <Bronzdragon> (I was)
[14:12:17] <ruffas> ahh
[14:13:16] <Bronzdragon> I should mention that on the last 2 epic jumps, my car came to a complete stop before the end, and I sort-of fell off
[14:13:24] <Bronzdragon> Which, for every other jump, means death
[14:13:42] <Bronzdragon> But since the 2nd to last kind has a thing below it where you can drive, and the last one ends in cutscene, it worked.
[14:13:52] <Bronzdragon> So I'm glad I didn't have to redo it again, again.
[14:15:32] <ruffas> i can see why you would be
[14:29:37] <ruffas> straw-beary http://boingboing.net
[14:31:53] <Bronzdragon> that's a cool bear.
[14:33:00] <ruffas> is it?

[16:43:20] <Bronzdragon> http://boingboing.net
[16:45:45] <ruffas> there's no aria here
[17:09:48] <aria> That strawberry is multiple strawberries
[17:13:56] <Bronzdragon> I'm doing something wrong but...
[17:14:00] <Bronzdragon> It's hard to tell what
[17:49:29] <aria> So what is Nightcore?
[17:50:43] <aria> oh it's like.. speeding up a song, and then doing nothing else?

[18:54:39] <Bronzdragon> So... that!
[18:55:29] <spacejam> C#/XN?
[18:55:31] <spacejam> XNA*

[18:56:23] <spacejam> OpenGL?
[18:57:15] <aria> I meant language
[18:57:23] <aria> he's using SDL for graphics I believe
[18:57:27] <aria> He's back...
[18:57:36] <Bronzdragon> DSL, yeah
[18:57:40] <aria> Same thing!
[18:58:01] <Bronzdragon> *SDL... sorry
[18:58:07] <spacejam> ISDN?
[18:58:27] <Bronzdragon> No, 'Simple Directmedia Layer'.
[18:58:38] <Bronzdragon> 's opensource, easy, and it it doesn't do shit for you.
[18:58:38] <spacejam> 56k?
[18:58:38] <Robobuntoo> ...
[19:00:34] <Bronzdragon> What is "56k"?
[19:01:03] <spacejam> 56k, ISDN, and DSL are all terms for slightly to more slightly archaic forms of internet access
[19:01:08] <spacejam> we need a definebot
[19:01:20] <Bronzdragon> Ah... ahhhhh
[19:01:36] <Bronzdragon> That went right over my head...
[19:02:15] <spacejam> oh man
[19:02:17] <spacejam> all those argcs
[19:02:20] <spacejam> why so low level?
[19:02:25] <Zappy> 56k modem, isn't that the fastest connection for my new Pentium 133mhz PC
[19:02:46] <spacejam> It most certainly is, Zappy!
[19:03:03] <Zappy> woot! i'm surfing at lightning speed
[19:03:28] <spacejam> all of the world's infotainment is at your fingertips
[19:03:30] <spacejam> faster than ever
[19:04:06] <Bronzdragon> Man, the people on my local bulletinboard will be so jealous!
[19:04:30] <Zappy> :P
[19:04:51] <Bronzdragon> I might finish downloading this gif of the death star exploding before mom has to use the phone!
[19:05:12] <Zappy> well GIF are pretty big files
[19:06:34] <Bronzdragon> Indeed.
[19:06:41] <aria> ...
[19:06:49] <aria> I still dislike gifs because download times are too long
[19:07:03] <Bronzdragon> Ugh, yeah =P
[19:07:11] <Bronzdragon> Some gifs are fine, but some are badly compressed
[19:07:13] <aria> (I get 30MBps)
[19:07:27] <Bronzdragon> it's like, the one image format where you can tell which ones are badly compressed.
[19:07:34] <aria> (will hopefully upgrade soon)
[19:11:45] <aria> spacejam: Bronz always picks the most low level everything that is not crazy
[19:12:02] <Bronzdragon> I'm... bad at high level stuff
[19:12:12] <Bronzdragon> Like, should I make a QT window?
[19:12:15] <Bronzdragon> How would I draw on that?
[19:21:49] <spacejam> probably with a function called draw
[19:21:57] <Bronzdragon> Ha, no
[19:22:03] <Bronzdragon> that function draws the screen
[19:22:09] <Bronzdragon> you'd need some sort of canvas
[19:22:15] <Bronzdragon> And then make objects to draw on it or some shit
[19:22:15] <Robobuntoo> Censor yourself, Motherfucker!
[19:22:31] <Bronzdragon> SDL gives me nothing but a screen and... that'sit
[19:22:35] <Bronzdragon> No functions to draw
[19:22:39] <Bronzdragon> So that's fun =P
[19:23:37] <spacejam> lol
[19:23:48] <spacejam> yeah, if you want to make a game in less than 20 years it sounds pretty great
[19:24:06] <Bronzdragon> Well, it can load images, and print those
[19:24:23] <Bronzdragon> And it has tools for manipulating images and Surfaces...
[19:24:33] <Bronzdragon> so making a game is not as hard as making anything that's not a game
[19:25:00] <Bronzdragon> But it's more of a tool used in an actual engine, rather than a graphics engine on it's own.
[19:25:07] <spacejam> mmm
[19:25:12] <spacejam> what are you using it for?
[19:25:24] <Bronzdragon> Basically, a room generator
[19:25:28] <Bronzdragon> Where the room is a box.
[19:25:37] <Bronzdragon> Well, maze generator, I should say.
[19:25:39] <aria> he's making it to draw boxes
[19:25:45] <Bronzdragon> Yes! that!
[19:25:58] <aria> It draws boxes of various sizes and shapes
[19:26:02] <aria> and then rotates those
[19:26:15] <spacejam> nice
[19:26:16] <aria> And then he's gonna find a way to arrange them such that the doors fit
[19:26:26] <aria> and when that's done, he'll take the same logic and use it in our 3D game
[19:26:29] <aria> because this was easier
[19:26:35] <aria> cept now he has to figure out SDL
[19:27:40] <Bronzdragon> :3
[19:27:46] <Bronzdragon> I figured it out
[19:27:53] <Bronzdragon> Btw, this orage is your favorite color?
[19:28:09] <aria> ...No I just picked an orange, because you told me to tell you a hex
[19:28:13] <aria> it's.. an orange
[19:28:18] <aria> Metroid has orange maps
[19:28:20] <aria> orange is ok
[19:28:25] <Bronzdragon> If you were gonna randomly pick a hex, why not say...
[19:28:32] <Bronzdragon> Uhh... AA2671?
[19:28:33] <aria> it's not randomly picked
[19:28:36] <aria> I picked orange
[19:28:39] <Bronzdragon> =P
[19:28:40] <Bronzdragon> Okay~
[19:28:44] <Bronzdragon> I did say "favorite color".
[19:28:55] <aria> I don't know the hex for Bronz!
[19:29:03] <Bronzdragon> I didn't think you'd actually pick a color, and when you did, I expected it to be your favorite...
[19:29:06] <Bronzdragon> Fair enough.
[19:29:20] <Bronzdragon> Anyway, it draws rooms now.
[19:29:41] <Bronzdragon> The one problem I have is that seemingly, it generates the same one when I actually seed my rand() function
[19:29:54] <Bronzdragon> While if I do /NOT/ seed it, it generates unique rooms
[19:30:08] <aria> And I didn't mean "He has to figure out SDL" as a point against using SDL or your method
[19:30:26] <aria> just that you now have to figure out SDL, rather than figur out, I dunno, IndieGameEngine77NoScope
[19:35:59] <Bronzdragon> =3
[19:38:25] <Bronzdragon> ... making your software sleep is apperantly hard!
[19:38:31] <Bronzdragon> I'll not bother then!
[21:49:34] <Bronzdragon> So, I did some research (IE, dad had some graphs) and it seems that over the last ~2 weeks, we've been having a significant increase in both latency and packetloss.
[21:50:03] <Bronzdragon> If you take the daily averages, latency is upto 350 ms average per day
[21:50:13] <Bronzdragon> And packetloss fluctuates between 30 and 40%.
[21:50:16] <Bronzdragon> that is a lot.
[21:50:31] <Bronzdragon> This explains why I've been having a bad time with the Iternet.
[22:43:27] <aria> Is anyone here on Mac?
[22:45:25] <Bronzdragon> I know Luke Barrage uses a mac!
[22:45:41] <aria> He's not even here
[22:47:54] <Bronzdragon> Yes, but that's the only FRC(f)-er that I know of that uses one.
