[00:11:17] -!- yoshokatana [yoshokatana!~yoshokata@hide-3567B4F5.nyc.res.rr.com] has joined #geeknights
[00:22:31] <nine> aria: Sounds about right on the tommygun.
[00:22:56] <nine> Ever seen a movie with one? They stand 2 metres in front of a store front and hit every fucking thing.
[00:23:02] <nine> Except the dude they try to kill.
[00:23:26] <nine> 1:23
[00:25:44] <Bronzdragon> =O
[00:25:47] <Bronzdragon> 1:25
[00:26:23] <nine> That's stupid.
[00:28:08] <Bronzdragon> 128
[00:28:13] <nine> 256
[00:28:50] <Bronzdragon> 512
[00:33:25] <nine> nobody will ever need more than 256 bytes of ram
[00:33:26] <Robobuntu> 256 bytes, might lose...
[00:59:09] <Apsup> Apparently Planetside 2 is still planetside 2 even after beta has ended. Didn't see or feel any significant changes.
[00:59:19] <Bronzdragon> Oh noes!
[00:59:23] <Bronzdragon> but you won't have any cert points now!
[00:59:29] <Apsup> Yup.
[00:59:35] <Apsup> So everything sucks now.
[00:59:44] <Bronzdragon> At least everything sucks for everyone
[00:59:45] <Apsup> I have to actually risk my life to heal people.
[00:59:48] <nine> ~?
[00:59:58] <nine> They reset everything?
[01:00:03] <Apsup> Obviously.
[01:00:18] <nine> What about spend certs?
[01:00:19] <Apsup> Do you think they would have beta testers to keep that free million cert points?
[01:00:23] <nine> All to 0?
[01:00:30] <Apsup> Characters reseted too.
[01:00:39] <nine> Oh great.
[01:00:41] <Apsup> Everthing started from zero again.
[01:00:51] <Apsup> New server names even.
[01:01:06] <nine> They didn't give beta testers free certs at any point. :|
[01:01:43] <nine> I heard about the server names.
[01:01:50] <Bronzdragon> ... you got to play the game for free...
[01:03:27] <nine> I still get to play the game for free.
[01:03:32] <Apsup> Actually they gave like 2000 free cert points some weeks ago.
[01:03:41] <nine> Wut?
[01:03:50] <Apsup> It's free to pay game Bronz.
[01:03:51] <nine> They finally found a dictionary and learned what beta testing means?
[01:03:52] <nine> Jebus.
[01:04:03] <Bronzdragon> Shush
[01:04:08] <nine> Why after I started and stopped?
[01:04:11] <nine> Bronzdragon: you shush.
[01:04:16] <nine> Or fix my dad's laptop for me.
[01:04:19] <nine> Your choice.
[01:04:41] <Apsup> Well that 2000 certs gave me two shitty assault rifles (like worse than the default one) and good medic tool.
[01:05:50] <nine> Wut.
[01:05:52] <Bronzdragon> ... can I install Gnome 3 on your dad's laptop?
[01:05:54] <nine> Shit has changed.
[01:06:11] <nine> Still doesn't change the fact that people can't beta test your shit if it's not accessible.
[01:06:15] <nine> You can't.
[01:06:20] <Bronzdragon> Shit has changed...
[01:06:20] <nine> Not before fixing it.
[01:06:24] <nine> Because it's not booting.
[01:06:24] <Bronzdragon> Shit... Shit never changes
[01:07:39] <Apsup> Well it can be argued that the beta was for testing the server cababilities and general game bugs, not for +1 to weapons range, stuff.
[01:11:14] <aria> So...
[01:11:42] <aria> If you're gonna get a EA game
[01:11:47] <aria> get it on xbawks
[01:12:08] <aria> If you decline the Origin lisence, they just stop bothering you
[01:12:16] <aria> rather than yknow, not let you play your game
[01:22:13] <aria> Nvm
[01:22:19] <aria> Apperantly they can't port to 360 worth shit
[01:23:27] <Apsup> Well, woulndl
[01:23:53] <nine> Oh aria.
[01:23:56] <nine> You thought you won.
[01:23:59] <nine> But still lost.
[01:24:14] <nine> If you're gonna play an EA game, stick with the old stuff.
[01:24:19] <Apsup> *wouldn't apply to me anyways, I can't think only one EA game that I really want and It's Mass Effect 3, which would need to be on PC because of saves.
[01:24:24] <nine> NFS Hot Pursuit (third game) is still best.
[01:41:38] <nine> SIX NECROBOOKS!
[01:41:39] <Robobuntu> six necrobooks, might lose...
[01:41:43] <nine> ...
[01:41:48] <nine> Okay, five necrobooks.
[01:42:02] <nine> Bakabuntubot.
[01:57:30] <Bronzdragon> Ugh, Dead Space 2...
[01:57:34] <Bronzdragon> Let me just skil this cutscene
[01:57:38] <Bronzdragon> Pleeeaaaaaseeeeee
[01:58:45] <Apsup> I've put that one behind me some time ago already.
[01:59:03] <Apsup> Kinda ok game, but I'm glad it is over.
[02:07:46] <Apsup> Why are you playing that on Hardcore?
[02:11:30] <Bronzdragon> I really like it
[02:11:36] <Bronzdragon> That's why
[02:11:41] <Bronzdragon> And because I like challenge?
[02:18:49] <Apsup> huh. I had to turn down the difficulty from normal to babby mode after I lost first some 20 minutes of progress and then some 10 minutes on second try on one annoying part near the end. Then I didn't bother to turn it back up again.
[02:18:51] <Robobuntu> you can't some 10 minutes!
[02:19:14] <Bronzdragon> Yeah, the end is annoying
[02:19:22] <Bronzdragon> With the invinsible dude?
[02:19:27] <Bronzdragon> The trick is to know how to run past everyone
[02:19:32] <Bronzdragon> (Hint, stasis, lots of it)
[02:20:27] <Apsup> Nah, it was before it. There was this multi floor thing with too little room to do anything. Espcially when my usual style was back in some faraway corner and shoot everything. Was no room for that in there.
[02:28:46] -!- Zappy has quit [Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.]
[02:34:34] <aria> So Zombie Drive HD is pretty shitty
[02:37:05] <Bronzdragon> I died
[02:37:26] <Bronzdragon> I had fun
[02:37:36] <Apsup> Did you get past the cutsece?
[02:41:36] <Bronzdragon> =P
[03:22:29] -!- aria has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[03:22:39] -!- aria [aria!aria@hide-700C3A1D.getinternet.no] has joined #geeknights
[03:26:13] <aria> So Capcom has a game that has crossplay between PS3 and 3DS
[03:26:28] <Bronzdragon> A WINK
[03:26:34] <aria> and you can transfer your saves and its the same game and such
[03:26:58] <aria> I wonder if that would've worked with Vita/WiiU instead, and if not, which company would've tried to prevent it
[03:36:09] <GauntletWizard> which game?
[03:36:25] <GauntletWizard> cause that's kinda cool
[03:37:20] <aria> E.X. Troopers
[03:43:09] <GauntletWizard> that's less cool
[03:47:01] <aria> How so?
[03:49:50] <GauntletWizard> because that game doesn't appeal to me at all
[03:49:58] <Bronzdragon> Good night, Gaunt
[03:50:35] -!- Bronzdragon has quit [Connection reset by peer]
[03:50:39] <aria> Oh, but the gimmick is as cool as you imaged, right?
[03:50:51] <aria> And the game seemed meh to me until I saw some gameplay
[03:50:56] <aria> it actually looks like plenty of fun
[03:54:41] <nine> Hi.
[03:54:48] <aria> hi
[03:59:21] <nine> 5<3 aria
[04:00:11] <aria> I want entertainment
[04:00:16] <aria> Do you have any for me, Nine?
[04:00:20] <aria> Is Dave streaming?
[04:00:25] * GauntletWizard does a song-and-dance routine
[04:00:39] <aria> =D *claps*
[04:00:50] <aria> Do more, do more~!
[04:01:11] <GauntletWizard> Hello my baby, hello my darling, hello my ragtime gal!
[04:01:38] <nine> Dave's not streaming. ;_;
[04:01:39] <aria> Also there was a movie on Lincoln from 2012 direct by Steven Spielberg, and I somehow missed it completly
[04:01:45] <nine> My penis is so sad due to that.
[04:02:15] <aria> directed*
[04:17:27] <nine> ... Quelaag with nipples. What's wrong with this artist? >:¬|
[04:19:49] <aria> I think she's intended to have nipples
[04:23:58] <aria> Say, GauntletWizard, how come I always get the most recent version of Google sites when using Firefox as opposed to Chrome? Aren't they primarly targeting Chrome users when it comes to performance tuning and fancy html5's?
[04:24:26] <aria> Actually, it's only Youtube that changes often enough to where it matters
[04:24:46] <aria> But I get 4 different revisions on the same computer and IP, depending on my useragent
[04:28:55] <okeefe> Anyone else noticed significant Chrome slowdown over the last several months?
[04:30:29] <aria> Do you know why?
[04:30:36] <aria> (I haven't as I primarly use Firefox)
[04:34:17] <GauntletWizard> aria: I have absolutely zero clue
[04:34:38] <GauntletWizard> Okay, that is a lie, I have a pretty damn good clue, but I can't tell you
[04:34:49] <aria> That is fair =P
[04:34:55] <aria> Should've guessed that
[04:35:08] <GauntletWizard> speaking of which
[04:35:18] <GauntletWizard> is your resume 'done'?
[04:35:18] <okeefe> No idea. Switched to Safari, actually. It's snappier and responsive. Javascript and whatnot might be slower, but not anything I've noticed.
[04:35:18] <aria> Sorry for putting you in an uncomfortable position
[04:35:36] <aria> Hm? Didn't I send you that quite a while ago?
[04:35:38] <aria> Yes it is
[04:35:39] <GauntletWizard> I never got the go-ahead from you to put it in
[04:35:50] <aria> Oh sorry!
[04:35:52] <GauntletWizard> But I'll do that now
[04:35:54] <aria> I thought I said yes
[04:36:20] <aria> okeefe: Javascript is a big part of browsing the internet yknow
[04:36:36] <aria> I'm a fan of Midori myself as far as light webkit browsers go
[04:36:50] <aria> GauntletWizard: Thanks
[04:37:48] <aria> Are you on a Mac?
[04:38:08] <aria> Not sure if there is Midori for the Mac. Although other than the GTK parts, it should just work
[04:38:13] -!- yoshokatana has quit [Quit: yoshokatana]
[04:38:25] <okeefe> Yeah, on a mac. G+ is a little sluggish, but it was sluggish under Chrome, too.
[04:38:43] <aria> Actually--
[04:38:55] <aria> In the early days of G+, when I used Mac OS for a while
[04:39:08] <aria> While scrolling and expaning comments was fine
[04:39:22] <aria> typing in the text box was so incredibly sluggish you'd be surprised
[04:39:35] <aria> I'd type entire sentences and wait for them to appear
[04:39:47] <aria> I was using Safari, and everything else seemed to be ok
[04:39:49] <okeefe> Wow.
[04:40:13] <aria> On the same hardware, using Linux with Firefox it worked a lot better. But I suspect that has more to do with changes to G+ itself
[04:40:22] <okeefe> In general, I try to stick to the iPad app for G+. Much snappier. No right-sidebar waste of space like the webpage.
[04:41:35] <aria> ...
[04:41:49] <aria> So this website, "alternativesto.net"
[04:42:00] <aria> Its showing me alternatives to Midori for Mac OS
[04:42:09] <aria> (I googled Midori Mac, it was the first result)
[04:42:19] <aria> Among those is a Trident based browser and Lynx
[04:42:28] <aria> Great job, website.
[04:44:40] <GauntletWizard> aria: Submitted, expect word before the new year
[04:44:47] <GauntletWizard> Or maybe after
[04:44:54] <aria> Alright, thanks a bunch
[04:45:00] -!- Zappy [Zappy!textual@hide-3F4E6465.mc.videotron.ca] has joined #geeknights
[04:45:03] <GauntletWizard> (Yes, our hiring pipeline is kinda broken)
[04:47:03] -!- Zappy has quit [No route to host]
[04:47:21] -!- Zappy [Zappy!textual@hide-3F4E6465.mc.videotron.ca] has joined #geeknights
[04:49:04] <aria> Yeah, seems Midori doesn't build for Mac
[04:50:15] <aria> Although you can get it through Mac Ports if you so wish. I'd just stick with Safari
[04:52:01] -!- Zappy has quit [Ping timeout]
[04:54:11] -!- Zappy [Zappy!textual@hide-3F4E6465.mc.videotron.ca] has joined #geeknights
[04:54:27] <okeefe> Homebrew has been a superior experience for me, compared to macports and fink.
[04:55:01] <aria> I haven't used Homebrew. Or much Macports/fink
[04:55:09] <aria> I try to stick to native stuff or VMs
[04:55:26] <aria> Other than under FreeBSD where running Linux crap is fair game =P
[05:01:30] <aria> http://youtu.be
[05:05:13] <pence> that is still the best video
[05:05:21] <GauntletWizard> I've used quite a bit of homebrew, but all my friends make it too hoppy
[05:12:47] <aria> So I got an email from Google saying "Someone said you'd be a great fit here" and such, also, "To learn more about who we are [:here's our website]"
[05:13:28] <GauntletWizard> ha
[05:13:35] <GauntletWizard> there's your bot communique
[05:13:48] <GauntletWizard> (I thought they'd turned them off, so they must be badly backlogged)
[05:14:36] <aria> I just thought it was funny that whoever wrote that blurb thought it necessary to educate people on what Google is =P
[05:26:01] <GauntletWizard> Man, you don't even know
[05:26:11] <GauntletWizard> In most of the third world, they've never heard of us
[05:26:23] <GauntletWizard> but they know what facebook is
[05:26:32] <aria> I'd believe that.
[05:27:28] <aria> But surely anyone computer savy enough to be fit to work there would know
[05:39:51] <aria> Sonic, you're just not as good as Takumi
[05:40:01] <aria> Wait is Sonic even here?
[06:34:40] <aria> So this is a thing that happened http://youtu.be
[06:42:34] <aria> Also holy shit, http://youtu.be
[06:48:37] <GauntletWizard> huh
[06:48:50] <aria> That's how FF14 ended, not very long ago
[06:49:00] <aria> Bahamut came and fucked everyone's shit up
[06:49:04] <GauntletWizard> Isn't XIV the shitty mmo that ruined mithra?
[06:49:27] <aria> It is an MMO, I know nothing of it other than that apperantly no one could run it
[06:49:37] <aria> and also that ending is pretty darn badass
[06:50:21] <GauntletWizard> Maybe square should go back to making movies
[06:50:54] <aria> The problem with that is that they make a bunch of badass fights, and then they don't know what to put in between the fights
[06:51:00] <aria> So they don't put anything there =P
[06:51:04] <GauntletWizard> Yeah, truth
[06:51:14] <GauntletWizard> I'd love to know what was going on around that bit...
[06:51:22] <GauntletWizard> but i suspect they didn't know either
[06:52:53] <aria> They probably finished all the fights, and then saw the render estimate and decided they were done with the project. The rest is up to the editing guys to make it make sesne =P
[06:53:24] <aria> I wonder if you get paid to wait for a render to finish..
[06:54:00] <GauntletWizard> lord knows I've gotten paid to watch computers reboot
[06:54:17] <GauntletWizard> Can't see why you couldn't get paid to watch renders finish
[06:54:22] <aria> Yeah but that's still quick
[06:54:40] <aria> Even giant pieces of software is only gonna take so long to compile
[06:55:04] <aria> When they render things for previewing, I'm sure towards the final set of previews thye let scenes render for days
[06:55:59] <aria> I mean, Im sure all the staff gets moved to something else for the final render which takes super long, but they have to keep people at hand to fix errors as they catch them, right?
[06:57:06] <GauntletWizard> yes
[06:57:32] <GauntletWizard> typically, movie projects have a dedicated "render pipeline engineer"
[06:57:42] <GauntletWizard> Sometimes more than one
[06:57:53] <aria> I was excluding him/them
[06:58:08] <aria> Obviously they're getting paid to watch render countdowns
[06:58:36] <aria> But it has to be pretty awesome to get to go to work for a week straight and do nothing because you have to wait for a render to finish
[07:00:34] <GauntletWizard> well...
[07:01:39] <aria> Moving to a different scene while yours renders?
[07:02:20] <GauntletWizard> Yeah, typically, they're working fulltime
[07:02:30] <GauntletWizard> Scenes are rendered as they're finished
[07:02:51] <GauntletWizard> once the whole thing is done, there's probably 2-3 weeks left to finish rendering...
[07:03:04] <GauntletWizard> but you, the artist, have moved on to the next project...
[07:03:27] <GauntletWizard> or been laid off with the dissolution of the production company, now that the film is finished
[07:05:51] <aria> Just checking animation and pacing and such can be done with very rough renders. But wouldn't you want relativly high quality visuals to preview subtle effects, lighting, and if there is any aliasing/badly projected textures visible/if you can see something you're not supposed to in a reflection or something?
[07:06:57] <aria> In the video I linked earlier, all the fancy magics and such would look entirely different with less render time probably
[07:07:18] <GauntletWizard> Yeah, but a) individual frames from each major scene are rendered to check quality
[07:07:39] <GauntletWizard> b) A skeleton crew is kept oncall for last-minute re-renders
[07:08:23] <aria> Yeah, you're right. That solution should've been pretty obvious to me
[07:08:40] <GauntletWizard> I know i'm right, I'm awesome.
[07:08:45] <aria> =)
[07:08:53] <GauntletWizard> (Also I worked with movie companies extensively for two years of my life)
[07:09:10] <aria> The dream of being paid to dick around and play DS will still live on in my heart.
[07:14:20] <aria> So did you work with a CG/visual effects house, or with a regular live action studio?
[07:15:40] <GauntletWizard> several of each
[07:15:55] <GauntletWizard> I was at a storage company
[07:16:54] <aria> Can I access iTunes without the client?
[07:17:14] <aria> I want to leave an iTunes review for a podcast =P
[07:18:36] <aria> Ah I can, seems I can submit reviews though
[07:19:47] <aria> can't*
[07:52:16] <GauntletWizard> Goddamnit, javascript, the comma in {foo: bar,} is valid in every other fucking language with dictionary literals
[08:39:21] <aria> Well then, with the clock soon passing 10am, it's time for me to head to bed.
[08:39:37] <aria> Good night then, fine folks of this channel
[08:52:42] <nine> aria: great ideas

[14:59:39] <apreche> bailing mad early
[15:01:27] <spacejam> for some of us
[15:01:34] <bronzdragon> Half day is best day
[15:01:40] <apreche> day off is best day
[15:01:49] <apreche> with warm weather
[15:02:14] <bronzdragon> See, you say that, but I'd rather have 2 half days than 1 full day off
[15:02:22] <bronzdragon> (assuming that is the exchange rate)
[15:03:52] <spacejam> what if you were choosing between
[15:04:04] <spacejam> seven day work week, with four half days;
[15:04:17] <spacejam> or five day work week with no half days
[15:04:38] <apreche> but yuo said best
[15:04:41] <apreche> best is never work again
[15:04:54] <apreche> and live in luxury
[15:05:16] <bronzdragon> Alright fiiiiine
[15:05:18] <bronzdragon> You win
[15:05:23] <bronzdragon> half day is decent day.
[15:05:39] <apreche> half day is most excellent
[15:05:41] <apreche> party time
[15:06:00] <apreche> I been watching Space Runaway Ideon
[15:06:05] <apreche> not much happens in each episode
[15:06:41] <apreche> bad guys attack again, robot does something new, and then plot actually progresses a tiny bit
[15:06:48] <apreche> repeat
[15:07:43] <apreche> and it doesn't seem like any characters are the main character, they all get equal time
[15:07:53] <apreche> but only a few are actually interesting
[15:08:01] <apreche> science girl is best, she's always like "fuck you military guys"
[15:10:28] <bronzdragon> Alright.
[15:10:34] <bronzdragon> That sure sounds like a show
[15:10:38] <bronzdragon> In which stuff happens sometimes
[15:10:55] <apreche> it was much lauded by some anime/mecha fans
[15:13:18] <bronzdragon> Right, I'm going to do some stuff
[15:13:19] <bronzdragon> I
[15:13:27] <bronzdragon> I will talk to you a bit later, hopefully
[15:13:32] <bronzdragon> Enjoy your half day, apreche.
[15:13:49] <bronzdragon> (If you can enjoy the other half too, that's fine with me)
[15:51:56] <apreche> what to do for the rest of this half day...
[15:52:02] <apreche> Maybe Dorf Fortress...
[15:52:20] <apreche> mm
[15:52:22] <okeefe> I'm going to make some cookies for a friend's party.
[15:55:53] <apreche> dont' you have a job?
[15:58:19] <okeefe> Not at the moment!
[15:58:49] <apreche> open a bakery
[15:59:54] <spacejam> You try to open the bakery, but it won't budge.
[16:00:18] <creamsteak> I has a full day
[16:00:23] <creamsteak> and also probably working friday
[16:00:28] <apreche> spacejam: actual lol
[16:00:29] <creamsteak> but I was home monday/tuesday sick
[16:00:40] <creamsteak> sick day is... not worst day
[16:00:46] <apreche> I'm about to play Fallout 1 at work!
[16:00:47] <apreche> aw yeah
[16:00:51] <creamsteak> that said, today I had a meeting with one of the company owners that was full of derp
[16:01:03] <spacejam> derplightful, what happened?
[16:01:14] <spacejam> gah, i haven't played a fallout yet
[16:01:30] <creamsteak> guy thinks that by moving the goalposts every meeting to make the interface end "simpler" it'll take less time to finish the product
[16:01:52] <creamsteak> it's less work... on the interface side... has nothing to do with the backend
[16:02:10] <creamsteak> and moving goalposts is frustrating interface design
[16:02:27] <creamsteak> so just general management derp wankery
[16:02:44] <spacejam> i always called it agile development
[16:03:00] <creamsteak> heh
[16:03:54] <spacejam> :/

[16:11:02] <bronzdragon> Rawr!
[16:11:29] <bronzdragon> I'm here
[16:11:42] <bronzdragon> And making games does not sound it would involve updating wordpersses

[16:11:57] <spacejam> i think i'm supposed to have a promotional site
[16:12:05] <spacejam> so people can see the screenshotses and demoses
[16:12:47] <bronzdragon> Demoses?
[16:12:52] <spacejam> that would seem to be the conventional wisdom
[16:12:52] <bronzdragon> Is that like demonses?
[16:12:57] <spacejam> demonstheses
[16:13:15] <spacejam> the ancient greek philosopher of role playing
[16:13:26] -!- Apsup [Apsup!Aleksi@hide-B4B1B39B.kortex.jyu.fi] has joined #geeknights

[16:14:42] <Apsup> Seems to be cut off from the whole building. It's nice to not have any warning on something like this.
[16:15:12] <spacejam> big building? they're supposed to announce that kind of thing
[16:15:54] <Apsup> Yea, maybe it's something not quite planned.
[16:16:14] <bronzdragon> Woudln't no water be a third world problem?
[16:16:43] <spacejam> is apsup in the third world?
[16:17:39] <Apsup> We got netflix now so I guess not.
[16:17:57] <spacejam> there you go
[16:18:58] <bronzdragon> Wait, netflix distrobution determines thirdworldness?
[16:19:12] <bronzdragon> Because I don't have Netflix...
[16:20:06] <spacejam> sufficient but not necessary
[16:22:03] <spacejam> though they might be in some countries that aren't strictly first world

[17:33:07] <okeefe> You're only going to get one flush out of that toilet. Use it wisely.
[17:34:29] <Apsup> I think I might have already used it. I found out that I had no water when I was trying to wash my hands after pee. And after flush.
