Gravity Falls - Final Thoughts

Tonight on GeekNights, we review Gravity Falls in full. It's a pretty solid cartoon. In the news, we will be doing five shows at Anime Boston this weekend. Escaflowne is getting a dub via pre-orders on Kickstarter. Sakamoto desu ga looks up our alley. Also we talk a bunch about bike rooms, bike laws, and bike thieves.

The Boy and the Beast

Tonight on GeekNights, we review Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and the Beast. As with almost every anime movie we review, it's definitely worth seeing. Zootopia is fantastic, and Azumanga Daioh is on Hulu. Stay tuned for us live at Anime Boston, Zenkaikon, and PAX East!

PLANETES Manga

Tonight on GeekNights we review Makoto Yukimura's PLANETES. It's slice of life space garbage men. Some of the character of Patlabor with the sensibility of Space Brothers. In the news, Katsucon's hotel damage made the rounds in the media, but the real story you should read is that of RainFurrest. You can see their (too little, too late) letter to their attendees, posted before they fully lost the venue. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOUUUUU!. (Except, probably, for the diapers). Smut Peddler's Monster Boyfriend Anthology features, among many other big names, the creative talent behind Oglaf (NSFW). A how to draw like Ryoichi Ikegami book exists.

Anime We Stopped Watching

Tonight on GeekNights, we consider all of the anime we watched a non-trivial number of episodes of before just... stopping. As we plan to do with Attack on Titan whenever it starts up again. From .hack to Naruto, Kaze no Yojimbo to Ergo Proxy. It's one thing to drop a show after one episode, but after 10? 20? What drives someone to just drop a show midway?

In other news, The Boy and the Beast is premiering in the US, the New York International Children's Film Festival has an amazing animation lineup this year, Over the Garden Wall is amazing, Katsucon this weekend has one of the worst panel policies of all fan conventions, and we'll be performing at MAGFest next weekend!

My Little Pony in Continuance

Tonight on GeekNights, much as we did with the ongoing Adventure Time series, we review the many episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that have come out since our original 2011 review of the show. It's still good (not as good as the comics, but still good), and we're still into it. In the news, Netflix puts anime in its correct non-anime categories, Lupin III continues to be most excellent of late, culminating in The Italian Game, and Pokemon celebrates its 20th anniversary with some off-the-hook stuff.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Tonight on GeekNights, we review Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle in the Sky (天空の城ラピュタ) having last night seen it again thanks to the IFC. It is a subtle and wonderful movie, and you do yourself a disservice to have not seen it. We also attempt to rank ALL of the Ghibli movies. In other news, FUNimation is inexplicably launching a cable anime network, and Fakku is kickstarting a release of Maeda's Urotsukidoji manga in English.

Inuyashiki

Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki is described as a "slice of life suspense science fiction seinen manga series" on Wikipedia. It is fantastic, and you'll understand it's full power within 30 pages give or take. In the news, the great Shigeru Mizuki, known primarily in the US for Kitaro, has passed away at 93. The Anime News Network 2015 Megapoll is underway (I suggest you vote for Yurikuma and One Punch Man). Build-a-bear moves into Pikachu territory.
