6 nimmt!

Tonight on GeekNights, we review Wolfgang Kramer's fantastic 6 nimmt! If you need a versatile, quick-to-teach, quick-to-play intense game for 3-10 players, this is your jam. It's in the spirit of Nim (hence the name), but supports many players and does not break down so quickly.

In other news, Nintendo's much-awaited Miitomo is coming to the US in a few days. Rym and Scott are playing a LOT of Civilization V lately via Giant Multiplayer Robot. PAX East (where we are performing Sunday) will have an amazing Thursday tabletop dungeon. A prankster/security researched released a game on Steam without Valve knowing about it.

GeekNights Patreon is getting very close to its first goal! Our Tshirt is still on Amazon! Rym will be at Zenkaikon this weekend!

Gaming News Roundup - March 2016

Tonight on GeekNights, we cover a wide variety of gaming news. Xbox games will have cross-platform play with the PS4, Blizzard has patched Diablo II and Warcraft 3. All the legal positions of Go were calculated a few months ago, and now AI is playing better than the best humans. Twitch is courting game developers to integrate more tightly with streaming, and also launches a cooking stream. Playstation VR expands the consumer VR space.

Thebes

Tonight on GeekNights, we review
Peter Prinz's Thebes, an updated version of Jenseits von Theben. Thematically, it's Indiana Jones: the game. Mechanically, it implements that theme to a startling degree. Dig deep. In other news, Street Fighter 5 sort of came out, and the weebs are ridiculously butter about the Fire Emblem Fates translation and localization.

The GeekNights Patreon is going strong, and Rym + Emily reviews are coming your way! We're presenting Atari Game Design at PAX East on Sunday!

Helldivers

Tonight on GeekNights, we dive into HELL with Helldivers. But first, our GMR game of Civ V continues with a discussion of Scott's economy, you can't sell games for $6.66, the Make War Not Love 3 bundle is $0.00, Hustle Cat is on Greenlight, your controller might not work with Street Fighter V, and we're going to be LIVE AT MAGFEST!

Also check out the GeekNights Patreon: the first Utena video has been released!

Games

Tonight on GeekNights, returning from holidays, weddings, vacations, parties, Utena episode preproduction, and early spring, we talk about all the games we've been playing lately. Fantasy Football (Wonderbolts just won the Superbowl), Towerfall, Risk of Rain, Mottainai, Rocket League (online and at a LAN party), Civ V against humans, and more. The Burning Wheel Codex cometh. Netrunner's rules have changed significantly. The PS4 has some strange failings when attempting to do local multiplayer. We'll be live at PAX South with three panels!

Towerfall

Tonight on GeekNights, we review (and disagree on) Towerfall. But first, the $85 Ghostbusters tabletop game is as bad as expected, though reviews are oddly kind to it despite the ugly truth as you scroll down, and Asmodee consolidates its North American operations, cutting low tier and undifferentiated online retailers out of the loop.

Don't forget to come see us live at PAX South!

Starwhal and Res Publica

Tonight on GeekNights, review Starwhal and Res Publica. The former is a great local multiplayer orthogame. The latter is a novel use of information economy in games. Youtube stars have their own dialect. You can help design Dreidel 2.0. Our Patreon grows ever nearer to the first milestone. We are on at least two panels at PAX South 2016!
