Tonight on GeekNights, we talk about games Scott isn't playing (since it's not gaming season for him), some thoughts on building a new gaming PC (both HT and regular), and the fallout of a Google Wallet argument from MAGFest. Pac-Man CE2 is coming, which may get Scott to game again. All of Nintendo Power is online for your enjoyment (including the most important issue ever).
Tonight on GeekNights, we make our triumphant (albeit coughing) return from running the panels department at ConnectiCon and catching the plague to talk about Pokemon Go!. Lots of updates to come as we ramp production back up, including on the GeekNights Patreon! In the news, Videoball is finally out, and Overwatch had a substantial update that generated a lot of heated discussion.
Tonight on GeekNights, while Summer Games Done Quick 2016 is ongoing, we talk about how we first discovered "speedruns" and the rapid growth of this community. In other news, Counterstrike streamers are laundering money to gamble on sham sites (that they own) through Steam, some people are a little too on-the-nose in their complaints about competitive mode in Overwatch, and Ubisoft doesn't appear to think women can be gamers.
Today, we pick through an entertaining Reddit thread on strange strategies in tabletop games. Beyond that, the G2A game codes scandal is pretty awful, and matchmaking is an interesting problem in Overwatch.
Tonight on GeekNights, we consider the grind in games. From grinding out levels to grinding out candy boxes, the good, bad, and outright evil. Videoball is finally coming out, and we're going to play the hell out of it. PAX West badges went on sale this morning, and were sold out within an hour or so (though it's unclear at what point the queue had people who weren't getting badges). That said, you should buy badges for PAX South: it's just as fun, way cheaper, and badges are still on sale!
Since you're probably salty about not getting badges, be sure to read Robert's comments on why it's such a hard problem to solve. Broadway (Hamilton in particular) is having the exact same problem, and there literally isn't a good solution.
Tonight on GeekNights, with two and .25 plays respectively, we review Fast Food Franchise and Food Chain Magnate. Scott laments a cookie thief, Civilization VI is coming just as we start to get really into Civ V, and the 2016 Spiel Des Jahres nominees are now known.
The GeekNights Patreon is going strong with Rym and Emily reviews, bonus shows, and more!
Tonight on GeekNights, we review and discuss Miitomo. We could arguably have talked about it on basically any GeekNights night, but we chose Tuesday because while it is a social network, it is also a candy box. And, it was made by Nintendo. In other news, Rym is frightened and confused by Fast Food Franchise, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! has been reluctant to reveal its mysteries, and the worst people on Earth attack an indie game, while the zeitgeist of humanity attacks a random farm.
